Re: Let’s talk.
Shoot I’d much rather have the cold weather. We have had really good conditions but I’ve been too busy to hunt since the 23rd and I won’t get to hunt again until the 5th or 6th. It’ll probably be shitty conditions again by then.

Re: Let’s talk.
Man, this week sure is dragging on. The wife lost one of her barrel racing horses the night before last. She colic’ed bad and had to be put down. That was a huge hit to the wallet.
2 more days until I get off. Then I’m gonna load up and go hunting for a few days. I’m gonna go make a camp somewhere. I’ve been wasting a ton of time’N fuel driving back and forth between hunting areas. I might drive 1 or 3 hours depending on where I go. I’m going to switch it up and try hunting the same areas for a few days before I go somewhere else. I’ll be taking my son with me so that’s gonna be really cool. He’s not quite 2 years yet.

Rowdy, does she feed probiotics to her horses?

Re: Let’s talk.
I don’t know what she’s using but there is one called fast track and it’s for horses. Not a single person that I know that feeds it daily has had a horse colic. A lot of these performance horses are on bute or some other pain/inflammation medication. That stuff all slows the digestive tract down. I can tell you with 100% certainty that this stuff makes it way easier to digest feed. I soak my feed. With dog food and water only, the individual kibbles just swell. With dog food, water, and probiotics it will be a soup. I don’t have to stir it or add extra water to get it there. Just add probiotics and it will break the dog food down. Same for horses. I’ve gotten to where I and the probiotics right before I feed so they can eat it instead of drink it.

Re: Let’s talk.
What brand are you using? I just bought a packet of probiotics and electrolytes for my hounds. I don’t remember what brand.

Re: Let’s talk.
Health Gard (correct spelling) is really good. They make a liquid that is odorless and tasteless. They have human, canine, and equine and they are all the same. They just get to charge more for the human kind. The Fast Track is really good for the horses. It’s a granular/powdery type. A friend of mine was one of the top greyhound guys in the world. At the last nationals meet I think he sold $600,000.00 + in dogs. One reason for it was because his dogs out performed all the others because his kennel was the only one that didn’t get sick. His kennel was also the only that feeds probiotics (Health Gard). His kennels at the tracks never got sick when the other kennels did for the same reason. I also use one called jump start. It comes in a dial tube. The dogs love it. When I use it I put their feed in the bowl then a couple clicks on the dial and squirt it on the feed. They will eat the probiotics first 9/10 times. A woman I use to date (barrel racer) was the one that introduced me to the Fast Track. It’s pretty dang good. Nobody that I’ve ever talked to uses it has ever had a horse colic. Not saying it hasn’t happened but the odds sure seem to take a nose dive when you use it.

Thank you! I’m going to look into it and see if I can get it locally.

Re: Let’s talk.
After talking with the better half, she is feeding a probiotic and electrolytes to her other mare now. She didn’t say the brand but when I told her the brand you recommended, she said she had looked for it but couldn’t find it locally. That’s why she bought the brand she’s currently using.
Went hunting for a few days with my son. We found a few different tracks, a toilet tree and a bunch of scratches up in one saddle. It was a hard to get to saddle and I will be hunting it again. Once the first of the year comes I’m going to put a trail cam up so I can figure out when they’re passing through. I found 3 different sized tracks so I think it’s a tom, a female and a yearling all passing through the area. Someone built a really sweet camp in the only spot that gets some cell service for a a good ways. We camped there and it worked out pretty good.

Well I’m sure those probiotics will work. Anything is better than nothing for sure.
I wonder if the camp maker isn’t watching the same cats?

Re: Let’s talk.
The camp is pretty old, but it’s definitely a possibility! There are a lot of sheep out here, so it may be more likely it was an outfitter than guides sheep hunts. They even built a little generator house and buried conduit down to the camp site.
But I really don’t know. It’s been a bit since anyone had stayed there. I cut extra fire wood and stacked it as a thank you.

Re: Let’s talk.
I found a female lion track in the mud this week while hiking to a rock outcrop to watch for elk with my client. He didn't find it as exciting as I did, honestly think it made him nervous to hike back out in the dark lol. Weather has warmed back up and melted the snow we got a few weeks ago with no sign of it cooling back off. Its making for tough hunting. I can't wait for December so there's hardly anyone in the hills. Seems to me there's getting to be more and more hunters everywhere you go no matter how far you hike into the mountains and less game to be found. Cwd is having a hard impact on both our whitetail and mule deer. Not sure if its running through the elk but can't imagine its not having some.

Re: Let’s talk.
In the last few days 2 friends of mine lost a great dog apiece, far to soon got me to thinking of dogs that are no longer with me anymore, most of the dogs in these videos....probably 80 percent are gone but will never be forgotten. https://youtu.be/UpEZs9x-yUY?si=qPF8fGS3ElZF5pmW
