At the time of the First World War, Aleksandrs Ziemelis (known as Sasha Siemel) emigrated from Liepåja (western Latvia) to Brazil.
Here he became a jungle researcher, guide, photographer, documentary film cameraman, writer, journalist, animal catcher (for zoos
and circuses) and a professional jaguar-hunter. Jaguars were doing a great deal of damage to Brazilian stock-rearing, and at that time,
there was only one acceptable means of solving the problem—to reduce the number of jaguars. Ziemelis became world famous as
the only known white man to hunt jaguars with the spear and the bow and arrow, since firearms were difficult to use in the tall
grass of the Brazilian wetlands (the Mato Grosso). World attention was focussed on Ziemelis from 1931, when books were written
about him, interviews and articles appeared in the press and magazines and finally a documentary film was made as well. Ziemelis
became known as the ‘Tiger Man’ (jaguars are known as ‘tigers’ in Brazil). He himself also wrote books describing his adventures in
the Brazilian jungle.

Devin, you love to call me the smartass! Lol, let's see those walkers of yours with that same build, bone structure, ears, muzzle, etc.

As I said in my earlier post...Those dogs are GGS...I'd take that to the bank.

Some of the debating is odd to me.. The GGS compared to a walker or essentially any other coonhound is like comparing a basset to a beagle.. There are similarities here and there, but it is what it is. The ability to recognize a dog by its bloodline or breed is not a complicated task. Anyone who has spent any time around hounds and knows what he's looking at can see the traits of a dog and recognize it's lineage to some extent. Bill's dog's certainly had the GGS blood in them. The question remaining is the who, where, and how... the "what" is pretty clear. I'm loving the photos and articles. Thank you to those who are contributing.

+1 I too am enjoying this thread and learning a good bit as well...I'm curious BOW if you find the newpaper clippings and family letters you mentioned and see what they say too..

12 gen.'s and Smith's Blue Ann is all over 11th gen.
There's two Spots.

Holy moley would you lookie here: go to the ped in the second page of this post and enlarge it so you can read it. There is the Panther dog, it says "Panther -G-" now this has been right in front of me for 2 years and I never figured out what it was.

The -G- stands for Gascon. The Ann bitch was single registered by none other than Bluetick Bill Harshman himself.

You know what really amazes me with you guys is that you are so hung up on looks. You are basing everything on looks and building a breed on looks. LT once wrote that he doesn't care if it is pink as long as it catches game. Now you are all starting to sound like Majestic Tree Hound, just breeding on looks and no hunt. My question is what is the point? Who cares what they look like as long as they are catching big game and doing it time and time again?
Why is Bill Green your desired biggame hunter? Do you think he was the only one that caught big game or did it better than anyone else? Do you think he pioneered big game hunting with dogs?That is an honest question , because I don't know alot about him but I would think that someone that live in the area of big game would have better dogs and have caught more game than him? No disrespect to Bill or his Family.

I'm the first to admit that looks aren't everything, but I'll take a blonde playboy girl type anyday...add some brains and desire and grit to the stellar conformation, well now that would really be something...at least in my opinion.
