Hey ferjr I guest I should have went a little deeper into my post about Catches dogs. The place where he hunts isn't filled full of roads. He's got a strike dog that I seen on the second morning, the dogs all opened on the truck ,put him down and he went about a 1/4 mile maybe more and end up putting him up. Call him up,go hunting with him, and I think you'll see the same thing I did. Some very good bear dogs that will take a hold of one and put it up.Your not going to see bunch of dogs, 2 or 3 dogs that can get it done from what I seen.

You see we are totally different type of hunters. You go out to see if your dogs can catch a bear. I go out and expect the dogs to catch a bear. I guess that is why you are looking for better dogs and I'm not. It is tougher to find nose than grit? Well I guess you could be correct, but why is it so many do a lot of chasing and not much catching?

Dude, you got me pegged. It's just like Christmas for me when a bear gets away. I've go the cigars and booze on ice ready to roll for when a hunt get's f'ed up. I'm not naive enough to think that what I've got in the box or seen is the best, so I'm always looking for something better.

Most guys do more chasin than catching because they can't read dogs very well, aren't honest with the dogs they've got, or unintentionally screw up a hunt cause they don't know any better. Only one of those has to with the dogs they hunt.

not that we know of. I also invited him to hunt but he is nothin but a bag of hot air. he's got it so far down larry's throat that neither of them can go anywhere. I guess you would say they are locked up      if ya have to brag your dogs up on the internet, and when invited you don't show up it usually means something. I don't ever recall meeting anybody that had great dogs that had to brag try to convince everybody that they are the real deal. O.k. well there was Ike I guess. :beer keep tellin us how good they are, I'm sure millions are drinking your internet Koolade right now as we speak.

houndem,

You wrote
"I guess my dogs have been reading all the trash I have talked on here about them being pussies cuz the last couple trips out they got the job done. the wierd thing is that I'm getting good rigs and runs in the cool early mornings, but no catch. the bears are flat out running me. then when It gets hot and the dogs are tired I find a track that they don't even rig on, dump em, cold trail couple hrs/miles, jump the bear, bay the bear and tree the bear! anybody ever seen this? any theories?"

It makes no difference to me what you say. You have changed your story many times and even made a few up. It is all good and funny, but you don't read where I'm trying to figure out why I can't catch a bear, or struggling to catch one. I think it is clear what the problem is, and it has nothing to do were you hunt. A Blue dog, you claim, that has been turned out fifty times and no tree sums it.

Take care guy, and good luck!

It's sad that all you can do is dig up old posts I have made to try and bring me down. you must have a lot of free time on your hands. I have never fabricated a story on here, too many of my buddys that were with me read this forum too do that. I have never claimed to have very good bear dogs. In fact while you were going through my archives you probably saw that most of the stories and pictures I post start with "I'm not a very good bear hunter, but". I bought that blue dog for that reason, to try and improve my pack. I have caught a good amount of bear for the unit I'm running, but if I had better dogs I would have caught more. I don't know of anybody around that has caught as many bear as me on this unit. you talk alot, actually too much. It is getting you in trouble. I hope some day to stand face to face with you and knock the hot air right out of ya. You don't have the guts to show up and show me what you've got, so why don't you just shut you mouth! :agmnt

This topic of most grit is getting a lot of good feed back on hound hunters wisdom. If I can ever bring myself to the level of bold men like ferjer, larry, catch, and houndnem, who have great grit and knowledge and wisdom and understanding and bla bla bla, then just cull me. If any of you greats does anything other than TALK then show me a picture or video, so I can have my soap opera to watch after church on sundays.

the man asked about dogs having grit not who can type best.there are dogs from all breeds with good grit you just have to get them in the woods and hunt them.to weed out the good from the bad.you can tell most of when a catchs them the first time how gritty they are gonna be. by which way they run . if they run away with they;re tail tucked or they will go at the bear harder. but you will never find out until you gettim in the woods and off the chain where all they can catch is a nap. you judge a bear dog by the caliber of bear you catch with them. you can tree some bear with one dog and some bear you wont tree with ten.

I have posted many pictures of my dogs and bears that have been caught by them, unlike some of the above mentioned (Larry, Catch) I do get results and have the pictures and videos to prove it. Obviously some people dont like to see others sucsess, I have been accused of bragging on many occaasions and now dont post pictures that often. I am by no means a expert, this is only my second year. I was accused by many last year of taken credit for my results from dogs that was trained by others and bought by me. So this is my second year, and I am still putting a LOT of bears in the trees and have done quite a few of them with the two pups that I bought at 11 weeks old and trained on my own (they are now 15 months old), and both are among my top dogs, and have been 100% trained by me. I am not the greatest bear hunter or have the greatest dogs, but obviously I have been doing something right. I am happy with my results and my dogs, I guess that is all that really matters. :beer
