Re: New Garmin Tracking/Shocking System
did someone tell garmin that hound hunters spend half their time shocking the hell outta their dogs or something? i don't know anyone who was wishing for a piggybacked gps/shocker system. just more money for a feature that i don't need.

Re: You guys in Wisconsin think this will pass? (I don't)
the WIDNR is missing out on a goldmine here. sell a $20 wolf hunting permit and every tom, dick and harry will buy one for deer season. say only half of all gun deer hunters buy one, thats SIX MILLION DOLLARS minimum - you could easily charge more! thats money that you could count on every year ...

Re: What price would b worth being able 2 run in wolf countr
your normal everyday pack of hounds could handle one wolf on its own - problem is, they dont fight that way. he can run faster and longer and thats just what he will do. but there isnt a dog breed that can take on a pack. wolves are built to kill things much bigger than themselves.

Re: Damaging Garmin with Marine radios and Motorola's
garmin did add some technical thingamabob to help minimize this issue, but it can still be a problem with radios that are jacked up way past 25 watts (i know many guys who do this to their radios).

Re: Wisconsin?
bring lots of dogs. you will need to make a sacrifice to the wolf gods, and they only take the good ones.

Re: How old were you?
my first memories were of driving around in the truck listening to the cb radio and all i could see was the tops of trees because i was too small to see out the window. and trying to hold on to leashes attached to hound dogs that were alot bigger than me.

Re: wolf problem
i see lots of issues:
1. the biggest and best are sight running hounds, which do no good in the big woods.
2. they are BIG so they don't live as long. i've read that you might get 7 years or so out of one thats about it.
3. they are EXPENSIVE. several thousand for a pup.
4. not sure a big dog like ...

Re: using a cb radio around the garmin astro 220
the astro has two different receivers to pick up signals from two different sources - 1.gps satellites and 2.dc20/30/40 dog collar transmitters. communication radio transmissions (cb, marine, etc) are burning out the receiver for the dog collar transmitters. it does not effect the satellite receiver ...

Re: another garmin question...
if you haven't updated the software on your astro in awhile, that may help. one of the recent patch notes mentioned something about improving the way the astro handles interference between collars.

Re: bait sitter, kills 736lb bear in WI
whatever the weight actually is, it really bothers me when people don't field dress animals right away. they probably drove around with it in the back of their truck all day too. might as well throw all that meat away.

Re: bait sitter, kills 736lb bear in WI
i was actually being somewhat gracious with my estimate - if you go with -20% after field dressing, then it would be 589 pounds. a bear this big could easily be -25%, which would end up being 552.

field dressed that bear would be barely over 600. which is big for WI but not huge.

Re: my debate.... atv trax or sled
for what you pay for and atv with tracks you can buy an ATV AND a really nice used mountain (long track) sled that will be much harder to get stuck and run circles around an ATV with tracks - speed and gas mileage wise.
