Re: Leaving a young dog over night
David, thanks a lot for the post. I am going to keep the dog for a few more months. At least until I've given him some better opportunities in spring bear training.

Re: Leaving a young dog over night
Thanks for the replies, I really like his temperament and will try to be patient with him. If nothing else it will be a learning experience.

Re: Leaving a young dog over night
Thanks for the input. The dog is and Airedale mix and my first dog that isn't a hound, so I don't really know how to gauge its progress. Every hound I've had that turned out to be a good dog went with the old dogs at a very young age, and would pack even before they knew how to run on their own. I ...

Leaving a young dog over night
I have a young dog that I made the mistake of leaving over night on his first big race. The dogs got into an area that is difficult to get to, and I wasn't able to get them until the next day. Since leaving him like that he has not been willing to leave and go with the old dogs again. Anyone have ...

Re: Dog quit hot track
It was still running. And not he say he couldn't be sent back, but one of his greatest strengths has been his gritt.

Re: Dog quit hot track
That is what I thought might have happens, I was just shocked that he quit after starting and leading the race. He did seem nervous around the other dogs though.

Dog quit hot track
I have what I thought was a very good started hound suddenly quit a hot bear race this week. The hound has been on about a dozen trees and 5 kills over the last 2 years, but I haven't been able to hunt much this fall because of my health. Monday my dog started a track in front of the other dogs and ...

Re: Bobcat Hunters in Tennessee
I live lower in east TN and don't get much snow. Thanks for the info about not being able to hunt them on some WMAs, I'll have to check and see about them ones that are closest to me.

Bobcat Hunters in Tennessee
Does any of you guys know anyone in East Tennessee that hunts bobcats? I know we have several in our area and would like to try hunting them in the winter after bears have denned, but I don't know how to get my dogs started on them.

Best Area for a Houndman
My wife and I were discussing relocating recently, and it got me wondering where would be the best place to live for someone who hunts with hounds. I currently live in East Tennessee, and although I love my area for most things, we have very little land to hunt and short seasons that make it ...

Re: lion gun
As it has already been said it isn't legal in most states, but there have been more deer, bear, and hogs killed with a .22lr in my area than all other calibers put together I would say. It is all about shot placement and being comfortable with the gun you are using. It is much cheaper to shoot a .22 ...

I had one of those experiences a couple of nights ago. We were coming home from coon hunting and we saw a coon running down the middle of the road. My dogs didn't strike it from the truck and it took several minutes of walking them back and forth for them to pick up the track on the side of the road ...
