Re: HOG DOG PUPS

Sounds like they should be tough dogs! Just out of curiosity, whats the story on the ridgeback blood in your pups?

Tough crossbred pups need working homes

My purebred ridgeback from recently imported S.African lines went and got bred by a red heeler cattle dog from up the road. This is the 2nd time she has gotten knocked up by a local ranch dog. Last time was a was a heeler/collie cross. The pups from the last bunch all turned out to be very tough ...

Re: Mexico Cat Dog type

It sounds like you need a dog that stays close like a cur, but has enough nose to trail a cat in those dusty hot conditions, and wouldn't hurt if it could work cattle some? Have you thought about a crossed up dog ? Maybe half cur half hound, or 3/4 cur 1/4 hound? If you're real worried about dogs ...

Re: Out of my element a bit

That's great ur dog nailed the punk! I know they say never to train a ridgeback for protection work, but i've got one who i think would excel at it if given the chance.
How did your SAR ridgeback compare performance/nose wise to other SAR dogs you've owned, or others you have seen work?

Re: Out of my element a bit

Welcome! I'm a cur fan myself, and a fellow ridgeback owner. Did you use your ridgeback for search and rescue or protection, or both? This is a great site with alot of information and once in a while a little entertainment

Re: first hit

Sound like real versitile dogs with good speed/power balance. You've got a fabulous country to hunt in. I visited a few years back and loved it there.
Good to see the stupid bans haven't hindered you too much in getting good working dogs!

Re: first hit

Lukeyboy,

Looks like you guys have spent some serious time and planning into your dogs. They look Good! That's cool you guys are using the Dogo/greyhound cross. I've often wondered how that cross would work on coyote's up here. In an average litter how many do you get that come out with real good ...

Re: mountain coon

In most of the Mtn West even the valleys are over 5,000 ft so it is very regular to see coon at pretty high elevations on the mountains. I would say though that the populations of mtn coons here are much more spread out than the coons down low in the agricultural land. People are a coons best friend ...

Re: first hit

Lukeyboy,

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of dogs do you guys hunt with there? When i visited i didn't see many hunting type dogs. Are the Huntaways they use on the sheep stations any good at finding/baying pig?

Re: Want a running catch dog

All these crosses mentioned would be good catch dogs, but if i were in your shoes there's no question i'd go for the bulldog/ridgeback cross. Here's why:

Size: The bulldog/ridgeback would have real good size/weight to him. I honestly can't think of a stronger catch dog combo. Maybe a dogo cross ...

Re: wow is all i have to say

It's true, C.A has alot of really great, good, down to earth people! Every summer i travel the length of the state, stopping and staying many different places for weeks at a time, from little one horse towns, to L.A, Sac, and Frisco. As a result I've met and seen all types! Met some of my best ...

Re: Couple of lion questions?

I've got no plans to kill this guy (if it is a guy). I like having lion up here in my backyard. It would have to be a very big tom, for me to even consider harvesting anytime soon. Luckily there are a few houndsman out here who think similiarly. Hound_crazy had this one in a tree and let em go to ...
