Re: Sighthounds on prairie yotes

If you got the open country then stags or gray hounds crosses.. If its broken ground with lots of tree's, ravines, creeks, sloughs and lakes then I suggest a Running walker or running walker wolf hounds, 3-4 dogs..

Re: PINEDALE CLOWN. B

Know this is a old post but if your still around.
I have a female running walker with quite a bit of Pine dale blood in her (pine dale clown, pine dale gus, and pine dale gunner with gus and clown bred back a few times). I run coyotes with her, she loads good, handles good, will jump her own coyote ...

Re: running hound alone question

Sounds like the dog doesn't have a clue yet to what you want to get done, not the dogs fault.
If its the dogs first time doing this yeah they will run back to you for security, just the way some dogs are, and don't make them bad..

When I first started running coyotes I had similar issues as I ...

Re: Hound with no interest.

Your welcome.

When I first got into running coyotes I didn't have another dog or any friends that had a dog to teach mine. so I had to start at the bottom and at times my dog lost interest as well so I had to use something to keep it interested and it worked for me.. Once you got the basis down ...

Re: Hound with no interest.

Letting a coon out of the cage is what has worked for me in the past. As far as getting a dog to follow a drag with scent and keep interested I found by using some sort of treat the dog likes, works well.. Just toss a treat on the drag line spaced about 3 ft. apart to the end. After a few runs then ...

Re: Coon Tracks?

Skunks front feet come to a point and minks feet or prints are side by side with front being close to back as they move along similar to a inch worm. If you look closely you can see the back foot pad of the coon in the sand..

Re: Teamwork or individual dogs

I like it both ways. If I can get the job done with one dog that's how I'll hunt and save the other dog for the next run.. For me it really boils down to how big of a area I'll be hunting at the time and if more than one target is involved..

Re: question about line breeding

Not much into this breeding stuff but a good friend of mine was at one time. His day job was artificially breeding livestock, cows horses, and swine. He also was a big time German short hair lover along with Setters.
In his short-hairs and Setters he always added new blood to his line from some of ...

Re: line or strain of dogs for the 2 to 3 day a week hunter.

At the moment I have a Redbone, redbone/black tan cross and a running walker in the house. Both redbones spend most of the time sleeping as well as the walker, but the walker tends to be more active and can get into trouble if not watched all the time.. It also helps to get them out and road them at ...

Re: best utv or side by side. Which is the best and why?

I have a Kaw. Terex and a Polaris RZR side by sides. First off if you put a roof or cab on any of them you are going to get more engine noise. I usually wear ear muffs on the long drives.
The RZR has more zip for take off (faster throttle response), the Kaw. has more guts for pulling (lugging power ...
