Re: This weekends hunt 275lb boar

I doubt that would work on a big hog. I have hit big hogs at 50-60 mph with the snow plow of a 5000 hp train engine and watched them fly 100ft and get up and run off. Im sure they ended up dieing but it wasnt instant.

I hit a boar hog going 70 plus and it ran off. I'll post a photo of the rented ...

Re: This weekends hunt 275lb boar

It dosent take alot of guys or even big guy to work a big caught hog. I was flip'n and tieing 300 pounders when I was 14.

My dogs caught a 60-lb sow yesterday and I killed it by compressing it's chest (with my foot). Quick and neat compared to similar sized experiences with knife and hunting ...

Re: This weekends hunt 275lb boar

Thanks! My BMC Red is part pit and he works hard. He weighs 65 lb. I worry about him because he tends to grab on to big hogs just after I've fired a round from a pistol. I put a vest on him to keep him warm when he's in a boat. He can't run long in a vest, but does fine in a collar.

I hope to have ...

Getting a grip on the feral hog invasion in North Texas

Posted: 01/26/2011 11:15 PM
ARLINGTON — Feral hogs... in Arlington?

Yes. And in Irving and Fort Worth, too.

There are two million feral hogs in Texas, and some are now making their way into urban areas.

Hunting and trapping are not enough ...

Re: This weekends hunt 275lb boar

Dog-knife? Are the chaps cut resistant? And were the catch dogs wearing cut collars? I see the vests. What county? Nice cutters! I saw a herd of feral hogs (40 to 60) in Fairfield Co. last week, along US 75 about 8 miles north of Buffalo. I hit them with a HID light, watched them run across a ...

Re: hog calls

There's an article in the Jan. 2011 Fur-Fish-Game about calling boars by Judd Cooney which talks about a guy from Decatur (North Texas), Glenn Guess.
It might be online at FFG, I have not checked.

8-Month-Old Dogo Stolen from Animal Shelter, Fur Dyed

A male dogo pup was stolen from Dallas-area animal shelter this week. The dog was recovered and had been dyed to change the dog's appearance! The couple that stole the dog is shown in the new stories. Losers!

Why they stole him, rather than adopt him, how the dog got there in the first place and ...

Re: No bears or big cats in North Texas

What line are your Blackmouth's? I have a 3 year old male Carnathan, and 2 young hound's.

Red is out of Alabama Red stock, Molly is out of the Weatherfords Ben line. Molly came out of woods dog stock near Alto, Tx. Molly has larger feet and longer hair than Red. Her bone structure is larger, but ...

Pat Mayse Lake DC-30 Dog Tracks

I'm using Google Earth v. 5.2.1.1588 and Garmin MapSource v. 6.15.11, my Astro and DC-30 firmware are all up to date as of this time. Shown is an area of reed grass just northeast of Camp Kiwanis along Pat Mayse lake (north of Paris Tx). Also shown is a Google Earth image of the same area with ...

Bedded areas, N. Texas Pat Mayse Lake

I scouted along the north shore of Pat Mayse lake during the last two weeks. It's USACE property and the hunting area is just north of Camp Kiwanis. We found bedded down hogs in large areas of reed grass that line the lake. The area shown is the cove just northeast of Camp Kiwanis. I trudged in ...

No bears or big cats in North Texas

Hello all! I'm Mark and I hunt cur dogs. I live in North and Southeast Texas, and hunt over about half the state. I have a breeding pair of black mouth curs: Red and Molly. Red I got from a colleague in Houston. Red is 65 lbs. I got Molly from a breeder in Alto, Tx when she was a year old. My first ...

Dog-Pistol Hunting in Texas

I took several hogs from Limestone County Texas this fall including two large boars. I enjoy retelling this story, but am still missing my dog Lula and would like to get her back. I was hunting in Limestone County with three black mouth curs. Earlier that week Lula had become missing. She is a cur ...

Limestone County Texas Eurasian Boar and Hide Tanning

I hunt with 3 or more black mouth curs. This fall I took two large boars from Limestone Co. The one shown in the attached file is a Eurasian boar and has the best looking coat I've seen. Red, shown, found him in a thick briar patch. I hit the boar in the neck with one shot from a .454 revolver from ...
