Post by Bucunter1983 »

Went this weekend with some friends and ended up killing 8 total, Killed a 300lb sow and this big boy sunday. Boar went 275 and cut up the black bulldog pretty good in the neck. Also cut a 10 month old yellow BMC in the hind flank, they will both be ok.

Dog-knife? Are the chaps cut resistant? And were the catch dogs wearing cut collars? I see the vests. What county? Nice cutters! I saw a herd of feral hogs (40 to 60) in Fairfield Co. last week, along US 75 about 8 miles north of Buffalo. I hit them with a HID light, watched them run across a pasture into the woods. I called the property owner but he has not called me back.

Nice boar. I hope your dogs get well soon so they can get out there again. I know my dogs think its fun chasing hogs and snip and move. Thats why they call them baydogs.

Sorry! Just interested. There a great NY Times story with photos and video of two brothers and their dad working big mean ugly catch dogs north of Houston. I take it you don't like cut collars.

Usually we dont run anything on a CD but during the colder months we do, I find that the vest slow down the cds and gets tangled up in the briar thickets in the area we hunt. Had it happen 2 different times this week. The only dog that was caught was my lil gyp that didnt have a vest, Then had to fight the briars getting the other out. Also a vest will cause a CD to overheat twice as fast, and yes we had stroked out a bulldog in winter before.

Thanks! My BMC Red is part pit and he works hard. He weighs 65 lb. I worry about him because he tends to grab on to big hogs just after I've fired a round from a pistol. I put a vest on him to keep him warm when he's in a boat. He can't run long in a vest, but does fine in a collar.

I hope to have a dogo/pit soon. I'd like to catch and sell hogs, but I hunt on my own. I'm not sure I measure up to Barefoot Bob Richardson.

I see the three of y'all holding on to that 275 pounder, and I don't see how Dusty Kennedy and Clint Watson, bone thin, could hobble just any old hog.

It dosent take alot of guys or even big guy to work a big caught hog. I was flip'n and tieing 300 pounders when I was 14.

My dogs caught a 60-lb sow yesterday and I killed it by compressing it's chest (with my foot). Quick and neat compared to similar sized experiences with knife and hunting pistol. I don't know why this wouldn't work for much larger hogs. Do you?

Dragging 250 plus lb hogs out of thickets while trying to control 5 or more dogs isn't going to work for me. I may try trapping if appropriate land is available and market persists

I may post recent experiences with pups here. 3 are now 4 mos old. I've been lucky. Hope they don't become over confident.

I doubt that would work on a big hog. I have hit big hogs at 50-60 mph with the snow plow of a 5000 hp train engine and watched them fly 100ft and get up and run off. Im sure they ended up dieing but it wasnt instant.

I hit a boar hog going 70 plus and it ran off. I'll post a photo of the rented car I was driving. I could not see it until it was right in front of me!

No, no. You compress their chest and keep it compressed. They can't breath and it's just a minute and they are dead.
