Re: kinda wierd hunt tonite.
I have been running my two old dogs to get them back in shape and my male is a silent trailer but my female is usually wide open on track. Last night my male made 3 trees and the female made 2 but it was the same as your dogs she let out two or three barks and located and treed. THe coon must not ...

Re: is a 308. to large?
I use a ar 15 in 223 when we run with dogs cuz the yote is usually on the run and then I can get many follow up shots. When I am calling I use my 22-250 so i can get better range. Neither caliber tears up the hide to bad. But I agree if all you have is a 308 then I would just get lighter grain ...

Re: Hollow trees
I've had the same problem last nite 5 hollows. "Leagally" you are not allowed to molest any hole or hollow tree. But when enough is enough stick the pistol in the hole and fire away and get a long peice of barbed wire to get the coon out. Last nite was the first time this year that i had a hollow ...

Re: Tune up for seasoned dogs
I try to run my dogs at least once a week in the off season and now that we are getting closer to season i try to get them out 3 to 4 times a week to get them into prime running form for the 7 nights a week during season.

Re: Coon meat Good?
I have a guy smoke all of my coon meat and it is great. Just make sure you get all of the fat scraped off. The best way is to put it in the freezer for a little while to stiffin it up then it comes off pretty easy. I took the meat from 60 coon to our church's wild game feed last year and it was gone ...
