Re: montana bear hunting with hounds
Gary, You hit the nail on the head with that. The battle is not going to be killing bears as much as its going to be just simply chasing bears. Somehow we have to get guys to understand that 9 times out of ten they are not going to have dogs run off the bear they are stalking. In reality is it no ...

Re: montana bear hunting with hounds
I think that it would be a great idea to get an organization up and running that is dedicated to issues like this, not one that is concerned with "grand night champion" titles in front of dog names. Look at the Montana Bowhunters Association, there first objective is to preserve and protect archery ...

Re: Lost Hounds With collars removed
Had this happen to buddy quite a few years ago. Lost signal on the dog and as we headed back into town, his box started beeping. We narrowed it down to a small neighborhood and the second door he knocked on a lady answered. Hanging on the coat rack behind her was his tracking collar, and the dog was ...

I think the best way is to put it on youtube and then put a link to it in your posting. That is how I have done them.

Re: Upcoming cross
This is a great cross. I have hunted with both dogs, and they get the job done. Very gritty dogs, Bailey runs with a metal rod in her leg and it doesn't effect her at all. If you are thinking about getting a new pup, I wouldn't hesitate to pick one of these pups up.

Re: Raising lion quotas will save the deer - don't cha know....
Its so easy for everyone to point the finger at the lions. I agree with you, pegleg, there are too many factors. It is an easy out for the biologists to up lion quotas, easy way to ease the minds of the concerned deer hunters. I wish the houndsmen would govern themselves, as you said. Problem is, we ...

Re: FWP Gives permission to kill 3 yearlings
I already know what Larry thinks of the state trapper so look out with that comment.
I also know of the state trapper and don't feel much differently about it.
You don't know fish and game protocol but you do know he didn't follow it.
I have several friends in the Fish and Game and have ...

Re: FWP Gives permission to kill 3 yearlings
Lets state it then if it makes you feel better. Since there are three different parties involved here is how I would break it down:
If I were the game warden:
After recieving the second phone call, went to the ranch for an investigation. Taken statements and photos, and physically verified what the ...

Re: FWP Gives permission to kill 3 yearlings
You stated that there was another way of handling it. Typical dumb ass statement made by someone who would of handle it in the same way if put in the same position, then never state how.
I guess that makes myself and a few others some real dumb asses then. I for one can say that I would not have ...

Re: FWP Gives permission to kill 3 yearlings
Well said huntinlass. I like your viewpoint on things. I too think there are too many factors in the fluctuation of deer populations. Thats why I get so worked up when lions get all the blame for deer numbers being down. I truly think a big, if not the biggest, factor is COYOTES. They play hell on ...

Re: FWP Gives permission to kill 3 yearlings
Thats exactly what I'm saying on this. I think all three parties knew one another and didn't think this would be a big deal. This is why they investigate such things, to make an educated decision about what to do. Otherwise can you imagine how many animals would get killed for the wrong reasons if ...
