Montan lion Quota's
Montana FWP has posted there 2010-2011 lion Quota's . If you run lion's in Montana you had better send your comments in . It looks like there want to whip them out. To many deer and elk getting killed and it's not the cat's . It's the wolf

ASRD which is our wildlife division wants to increase the quotas and impliment a boot season in several units here in Alberta for the 2011/12 season as well.
Your comment about the wolves is true, however the wolves are high profile policicly as are the grizzlies and they will not stick their necks in a noose to kill and manage wolves that are a BIG part of the problem .
There are not more cats on average, possibly in some areas that may be true....however there may be more sightings due to the lions having to move into areas where there are fewer wolves and more human inhabited, so they can survive without direct competition from the wolves......
When the wolves have killed all the elk, moose, deer "WHICH THEY HAVE A GOOD START ON DOING ALREADY" and start on the sheep the lions in the back country will starve or get killed in the front ranges and on the ranch land because there is no game remaining for them to exist on in the back country .....your game department as well as ours will not admit any wrong doing reflecting on the management of a resource ...it's politics and no longer game management.....
The reason we have more lions in some of the populated areas is due to a food source where landowners do not allow hunting and less deer are getting killed during the hunting season and the wolves are in direct competition with the lions for food in the remote areas, so the cats move out to where there is easier pickings and like here in Alberta get into trouble and become problem wildlife so to resolve this and to save money within the department they feel it is a good management plan to increase the lion quota and reduce numbers so it is less expensive for the dept. to deal with them....What happened to sensable thinking, sound management practice and consultation with stake holders before these regulations are put in place???
