Thought I was gonna lose a dog today...

Hey everyone, I had a pretty bad day or I should say my poor hound did. My buddy and I went out coon hunting and basically roading the dogs as it started to rain pretty` good when one of my younger dogs heard my older dog open up, she took off through the brair bushes to get to him. So my buddy and I got out of the truck and went to them when my buddy noticed some blood on the ground and mentioned someones pads are bleeding. We kept walking as I thought it was my youngest dog as he was not use to the thorns and stickers until my little female showed up and boy I just about crapped when I seen her, she was covered in blood so I caught her and began to investigate the problem when I seen she had slit her left front paw wide open and it was just pouring blood out. If you don't carry a first aid kit I highly recommend one as we had only a parshal one just enough to get it to slow down till we got her to my buddies house were we cleaned, stapled and had to apply pressure to her paw to get it to stop bleeding for about 20-30 minutes. She got very lucky as so did I cause she barely got a little vien in her foot as you could see the blood pulsate and come out and boy was I worried. We got her stapled up and the bleeding to stop for now as I have her in the house so I can keep an eye on it and if it starts again I will take her to the vet and let them handle it . If you don't have a first aid kit in your hound rig at all times, even when you don't think you'll need one I highly recommend getting one as I would have never expected this to happen just roading them.

the one guy i hunt coyotes with uses the stuff you use if you cut yourself shaving, can't think of the name of it , but works good.

Yeh, when we got to my buddies house we cleaned it up with antibacterial soap and warm water and then used some bedodione solution before we stapled her after cut- heal failed to work. We usaully just clean it up and use cut-heal spray and that stops the bleeding and seals it up but this time it didn't work to good.
I sure hope she's alright as she is just really starting to click good and it is the first little nance dog that I ever owned, sure put a lot of time raising her for this to happen.
I just checked her paw out and boy it is pretty swollen hope this is normal, I went ahead and gave her another round of asprin and some Amoxicillin just in case.

I would stay away from the asprin use in my opinion. later, Andy

Asprin prevents clotting.

10-4, what would you recommend for the pain?
The swelling went down today and her paw is about normal and I stop the asprin use this morning and thanks for the help guys.

I would think she is fine without any pain reliever but if you think she needs something tylonol is fine. later, Andy

Thanks Andy, I stopped with the aspirin the other day after reading your's and Colbalt's post. She's doing pretty good and the cut looks good to.
