BMC's have two distinct strains...herd dogs and hunters. They are natural at whatever strain you get... I tried them and got herd dogs...just my luck.

yeah on our ranch we use horses and atv's to herd cows not dogs...the pups were good at herding at 12 weeks I kid you not.. they were the best natural herders I have ever seen but I had no use for them and they got donated to a friend.

I thought there was a 3rd strain, the ones that fight like pit bulls every time you took them out. And let me tell you, he was a natural. Meanest dog I ever owned was a BMC. Probably just got unlucky, but I'll never feed another one.

you fellas got to be careful, a red catahoula over a yellow/red pit or bulldog will give you dogs that look just like a red/yellow BMC. i'm on my second one in two years and they can be a PITA.

I have a BlackMouth Cur, That I use on squirrel, bobcat and coons and not by design, he does put up a few bear each season. I also use him to point and flush grouse. (He is excellent on points and flushes), also on fall turkey's. He is also the same dog that sleeps between my wife and I each night, and lets my nieces put lipstick on his lips and paint his toenails. He would leave my bowl of ice cream in a heartbeat to fight the biggest nastiest coon. Any more info. let me know.

I was looking into getting a BMC at one point. A freind of mine who was usually quite laid back said to me "You do not want one of those dogs. I know you, I know your dogs, I know BMC's and you do not want one. If you proceed down this path toward getting one, I am going to gather some freinds and we are going to do an intervention. If you still think you want one, you will have to kill us first."

I had never seen him be as forceful on any topic, so I took his word for it. There are dozens of strains and mixes of dog I would love to try some day, and life is too short for me to try very many of them (if any), so I just crossed them off the list. Evidently, there are some folks that dont like them. Obviously though, there are some folks that do. Hope I didn't miss my chance at my dream dog. Don't tell me I did. I would hate to have to kill those guys so I could get a BMC.
