Thanks for sharing your expertise nolte!

Ike, I'm curious if you would share your opinion on the subject given your life time of experience?

Sorry but no I won't give any input. Nolte came over under the lion post and gave me some shit so I brought it back to him over here. Why provide input only to have somebody take a shot at you? I've said it dozens of time, if a person stay on the topic rather than jumping on somebody for their input we could all have some insight as to how and what other people see or believe happens in the field. But it only takes one smart ass to turn a post south..........

It's obvious you have a real chip on your shoulder Ike. Too bad, I USE to love your posts and respect what you had to say. However, the last year or so you got bitter cuz not everyone thought you were the shit like you wanted everyone to think. You don't seem to care for the fact that some people don't think your way is the only right way. Pretty sad a guy your age has such thin skin and is so narrow minded. Please be so kind as to contribute something to the thread or take your tantrum to another thread, perhaps one that started shit with you and not some guy trying to have some useful dialogue with experienced houndsman. :joker

And I'm suppose to put up with shit like that from you without a come back? I give NO respect to anybody that doesn't return it. And I blame all of my lack of tolerance on the assholes on this board who do little more than sit around and take shots at people's reputation. I seldom start shit but I always give it back, doesn't matter who shipped it my way. And if I'm suppose to turn the other cheek then why doesn't anybody else? Nolte started this and he knew that I would give it back, yet he wanted to act like a second grader and start it anyway. I don't understand is why you would join in?

Gender has nothing to do with grit, desire, brains, stamina, ETC… T

I run mostly males but it is for other reasons, as most of the females that I have hunted seem to be too independent. The males that I have owned and hunted seem to hunt more for me and the females seem to hunt more for themselves, but that doesn't make it so only my observations..

Grittiest dog I have ever owned was a female. Best cold trailing dogs were females. 2 best all around dogs were males.

Most of the guys I have hunted with prefer females. If fact they are all real stengy with females pups. They will give a guy a male pup but not a chance with a female pup.

Not questioning just curious, do you think that is because as a group you may have a tendency to run a higher percentage of males than females?

I'd say there is probably a 60/40 split of males/females but it just seems that the best dogs are usually male. I'm comparing them to the best dogs I've seen, not just good solid dogs.

I've got to agree with cat & bear on the subject. Good females are usually having a litter of pups. A good female that can throw good pups is pretty valuable.

Well Have seen dogs of both Genders do good. When i first got into hunting with hounds I went with the female because they seemed to turn on quicker at a younger age plus they get more cordination quicker too. But now i have got all males for my big game hounds.(Bear, Coyote and Cat) The 2 females i got are straight coon dogs. The males turn on a little slower but just 1 extra month or 2 to wait isnt that long to wait for them to turn on. Once their going they are hadr to beat. I really got tired of the comeing into heat during kill season stuff too. So I say Males over Females!
Hunting with hounds is not a hobby its a disease!

I would say their is not much difference on grit and heart. In my eyes a female is faster and easier to please you. Males that have grit and heart are harder to find, alot more hardheaded and independent. I have seen a lot more males hurt or killed, so what does that mean... to much grit not enough brains, or was it because, I have seen more males run than females.

I only run females right now just the way its worked out

Females that I have been around seem to be the grittier dogs for me. Close their eyes and dive in.

i have seen some real good ones of both gender but i would have to say the split is 70/30 in favor of the males for an all around good dog. i prefer females because i can't stand yard dominance in males so i just stay away from them. i think females are easier to hunt and not so hard headed. not all but most i have had. the only trick is to find the good ones.
