dog houses

Post by robbyson99 »

What do you all put on the doors of your dog houses for the winter? My dog rips off carpet before I'm finished nailing in on lol so I was wondering if something else works better to keep em warmer

When my female was young, she'd rip down everything I put on her door. I guess it took a couple real cold nights for her to get it. Now I have some heavy canvas type cloth on there and she leaves it up.

Look at the K-9 Kondo unit out of Nebraska.
I have 6 of them in my kennels, they are 8-9 yrs old and still like new...I can not think of a better setup.

I use rubber flaps on mine.. Most of my dogs have it figured out and love having their flaps.. One just can't contain herself.. she doesn't get a flap...

I pretty much figure that if they are smart enough, they will leave them alone.. If not.. then they don't get one becasue I'm not replacing it everyday...

Thats exactly what I do too. I got the rubber from an bed mat that came in a truck I bought but mud flaps or belting would work too.I cut it to fit over the door opening then I cut it into strips on the bottom 3/4 of the flap.

Good looking units. Looks like they would be great in the winter months but was wondering if they are cool enough in the summer months? I see the door can be locked open.

Just buy the door to the k-9 condos and put them on a plywood box, works great.

Thank you everybody that replied. My male just stands there. Watches me nail the carpet over the door and then beats the snot out of it till it comes off haha. I figured he was numb but I felt bad come winter but he just wouldn't leave it up. I will try the rubber mats. I really appreciate the help. Corey

I've tried several things also, the best that I like is the rubber roofing, that comes for seamless roofs, you can get at menards, home depot. Its similiar to an inner tube material, except a sheet. Its cheap, it is very flexible, and easy to cut. They dont seem to chew on it either. I just staple it to the inside of the door, so it swings, lol

yeah rubber works good..but dont get it to airtight on plastic barrels..cut some strips into it. If its coverd to good the water vapor cant get out just from there breathing...soaks the bedding pretty fast...a couple of mine were on icebeds before i noticed it.im thinking of drillin a few small drain holes in the bottom of them to see if that helps to.
