Some how or another we end up running into one of our buddies in the mountains and his lead dog is very tree aggressive. We have seen him fight others dogs off the tree. Personally I won't hunt with him and I head elsewhere.
What would you do if you got to a tree and your dog (s) are fighting with a dog like that (knowing your dogs aren't tree aggressive)?

Hold on the gun in the air and say your dog or us hunting together. One or the other.
Re: Buddies top dog is very tree aggressive
first off protect your dogs from the agressor whatever it takes then adress your buddy with the problem . if hes truly a buddy you can work it out .

Whats more important, your friendship or the saftey of your dogs. And ask him the same, dont hold back. If you cant settle it, go the opposite direction to hunt.

Jimm,
A dog that turns into an alligator at the tree is a threat and a problem for a couple reasons. Based on my very limited experience with this, the overall safety of every dog out that day is in jeapordy. I have seen tree fights turn into an all out knock down drag out fight with every dog invilved. Usually ends up with the best dogs that had nothing to do with starting the fight ketting hurt or killed.
The other concern is, even if they don't fight a lot, the aggressive behavior of one dog can flat out harm other younger dogs desire to tree. I have seen some really promising young dogs harmed, maybe for life, because of tree agression. Too many great dogs out there to put up with undesireable behavior like that.. IMHO KattSkatt
