Any of you guys hunt the Jarbidge or the eastern edge of it, or west of Jackpot? And if you do is it only in the snow or does anyone bare ground it..?
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

Re: Nevada
I was West of Jackpot last Sunday. Not many people hunt it in the summer. I saw one fella last fall before the snow flew and nothing got checked in, so I don't know if they caught. Lots of Elk to get through too. You know you are more than welcome at my place, and the weather has been cool this spring. My little Cherry female is at the vet with a snakebite, and there was two other snakebit dogs there to, so we must have a good crop of them this year. She's doing good and should keep the leg so far. I hate them damn things. Anyhow, take care, and hope you make it up this year.

Re: Nevada
I was there this last Wednesday and Thursday.... the high was only 46 and I thought I was in heaven
I didn't have any dogs but we stayed at the the ranch at Twin Meadows and they drove me around I got to see the country.. They have a section of land that is by the forrest and borders the Jarbidge and they said I was welcome to camp there anytime I want. Its alot different than down here all that sage brush and water every where. I seen some deer and elk.. looks like good lion country so I'm going to try to get out there in September.. is that a good time???? When I do I'll let you know.
I appreciate the invite and you know your welcome down here at my place anytime... and when I do get up there I'll let you know..

Re: Nevada
It's a great time. All the deer and elk hunters have the cats stirred up and moving pretty good. We'll just have to be pretty carefull on the situation we turn allow the dogs to fo on, and quit telling everybody there is water here. This is the high desert.

Re: Nevada
Yeah well I'm from Southern NM so it seemed like a lot of water to me
Is there a better time when there aren't any deer or elk hunters out..? I've heard August can get pretty hot is that true? I like to just ride and free cast and let the dogs strike.. maybe take a pack mule and just ride the country and learn it.. The headquarters to the ranch I was on was right past the cottonwood ranch and I heard that they do a lot of guiding, do you know if they have there own hounds or do they use someone else?
I'm sitting down here watching the thermometer, its going be over a 100 again today.. sure wish I was up there..
Thanks

Re: Nevada
Actuall all that water is deceiving. You were witnessing the spring runoff coming late. Usually in the spring it's hard to hunt cause of all the rushing water you can't hear the dogs. By mis summer everything is mosly dried up to a trickle. August is pretty hot unless you go high which is where you want to be anyway. I gotta go right now, but I'll get in touch a yak at ya.

I fought a big fire up on the Jarbidge two years ago. I saw a few sets of lion tracks in the wilderness area. I really like that country i would hunt it if i lived closer.
