The Beginner's Guide

Post by Unreal_tk »

OK. This a list for beginner hunters of what a guy needs to get started. Obviously there is tons of things nice to have but lets make a simple list.

Transportation (depends on area)
Food for the dogs
Desire to hunt
Shelter for the dogs
Vet fund for them (shots,etc)
Tracking system
Training system (shocker or sound)
GPS or compass and map
Ability to deal with upsets and need to cull.

Do you have anything to add to the list. Please state your reasoning, not just because you think so. I hope to hear some good responses.

Number one is opportunity to hunt! You have to live in an area that has hound hunting and animals to hunt! In your list Desire and upkeep of dogs are all you really need! everything else i believe is stuff that helps you become a better houndsmen but its not needed!

you forgot the divorce papers, a good mechanic/body and fender guy, cage fighting training(for when the other hunters try to kick you off the mountain), endless patience and a bottomless wallet
"Houndn'Ems Blueticks" if it smells like a cat, they'll catch it.

Hound'em - that's what I was thinking as well.

A shortcut, would be a trip to a psychiatrist, to see what is wrong with a guy for wanting to start into this in the first place!LOL

well unreal tk, if your not married that just puts you with one less thing to get when you start. and if you date while your running the hounds and she still marries ya it just might work.
I liked the trip to the pshyciotrest lion tracker, can't belive I forgot that :D
