I hear alot of bad things going on in the more popular places bplott, and according to hear say most happen from gang banging with mixed packs and too many dogs under the tree. Personally I have never been there and seen it, nor have I ever had a dog killed by either bear or hound, but I have had several pups that went to other guys killed under the tree (one way or the other) I'm told. I guess that's why I don't usually split runs with other houndsmen and I stay away fro the popular spots--I'd rather not see a bear or track than land under the tree with strange dogs.

I have had two dogs caught in the jaws of a mean bear, all four canines to prove it and never had one killed any which way while hunting lions or bears. I do fear for that black plott dog of mine though, cause I know if a bear doesn't climb he's gonna get hurt.........

When i was hunting with my dad a while back his dogs treed and a rogue plott came from another pack about 1/2 mile away and wouldn't stop fighting my dads dogs. Once the plott when to sniff one of the female redbones, my dads b&t male turned around and ripped the plott to shreds until the owner finally came.

Two wrongs does not make a right. If a stray dog shows up (and has collars on) you should have tied that dog up way out of the way instead of letting a fight occur. Your BnT is no better than that plott. And I would have worked him over just the same. Sooner or later one of your other males might walk up and sniff a female....then you will see how bad tree fights can be. because you will feel the pain of losing one or both of your hounds. JMO

X3 on the manners

There are places around here where other hunters will not give a seconds thought before dumping the box blindly in on top of you. It could be an elk, deer, coyote or skunk. One things for sure, your gonna have company.
Heard some good stories this spring on some beat up dogs only to have other hunters tell us how they came around a corner to see the damndest dog fight you ever saw going on right in the middle of the road. Said there must have been 16 dogs....I guess sometimes the truth just dont sound as good...

Ya and then we wonder why the dwr has an 8 dog limit for summer pursuit??????? 16 dogs fightn in the middle of the road????? wow!!!!! If the houndsmen here in utah dont straight there act up we are gune loose all kind of hunting privilages and its our own fault. It doesnt take 12+ dogs to catch a bear it just takes a few of the RIGHT dogs to get the job done!!!

Most of my bad experences have been from dog fights at the tree, although i have had a dog or two slapped by a mean bear.I think too many strange dogs baying or treeing isn't a good thing as they can't get out of each other ways.
Question:Are the fights mostly males or do you find the girls going at it also?

i was not trying to say a certain breed was superior to another its just what happened. And while they were fighting, me being only 16 at the time was very inexperienced and had no idea what to do. Had to wait till my dad came to help me.
