Quick Track Collar ?

Post by bowhunter7 »

I had 2 of my brand new quick track collars quit on me the other night. I turned the dogs out to empty and a couple got out of pocket and when I pulled my box out to find them I couldn't get a signal on one of the collars. Luckily I had a pup that would shadow the gyp with the dead collar and was able to find them that way. After that I decided to check the rest of the collars and the one on my strike dog was dead as well. I got real lucky because my strike dog is one that will keep going until you find him. I might never have gotten him back. They worked fine 3 weeks ago and Ive hunted a few times since, but never turned out and had to use the tracker during that time so I don't know when the problem started. Now the strange part. I put the magnets back in and headed home. The next morning I pulled them out ready to send them in and they both worked fine. Any ideas or similar experience's. The guy at Quick track sugggested something about a "dead dog" feature that shuts the collars down after a period of inactivity, but even so they should have came back on when the dogs started moving. One other tidbit, it only happened to the collars with tree switches. I don't know if that was just coincidence or what. Thanks

I've had the same thing happen with two of mine quick track collars Gary at westcoast said the transmitters go to crap both of mine did it in with hardly any hours on them. They came with quick track unit so I tossed the collars and ordered more from west coast that work forever with no problems. A friend also had issues with one of his quick track collars.

Yeah, I don't know what's going on. It was like the swich got stuck in the off position, but they work fine now I'm just a little gun shy. I've had one hanging with the magnet out all night and when I get home I'm goijg to check the "dead dog" feature theory.

Not sure I would want a collar with a "dead dog" feature.

Im with you 77 let me track my dead dog so I know where he is. Had two hunting buddies that use nothing but Quick collars each bought 4 new collars for this year and have had to send 3 back between the 2 of them, I know of 8 new Johnson collars being used and not one problem.

Well I left the damn thing on for 24 hours with out moving it and it never did shut off. I don't know what the guy was talking about, but looking back it seems to me the switches got stuck in the off position for some reason. I'm not giving up on the collars, I do like them, but you can bet I'll be checking them before I turn out any dogs. I love the weight on these collars and I can pinpoint a dog's location better than others I've tried (Johnson and Magnum).

quicktrak collars yeah they beep, I don't think there all that great, have a few flaws imo, ones the attennea but we won't get any further on that....but make sure you always check to see that there on before you turn a dog out, just pulling the magnet doesn't always turn one on, sometimes a switch might stick a little bit.

i need to send mine in i dont think mine is the switch getting stuck maybe though but why would it make the box go all crazy then stop then go back to regular beeps, when it goes back to beeps its fine but then it will go back to screeching and i get alot of static then nothin so then i turn off the box wait and it will be fine i checked on two other boxes to make sure my box wasnt going to crap already and it did it to the other boxes to so i dont know one box was a trx 10 and the other was a icom so it has to be the collar. does anyone know if gary trades used collars for used collars??
i really liked that collar it was strong and i could locate them real easy with it. kinda sucks the collars are only maybe a year old and i used that one collar for the last part of cat season last year.

I am also running quick track gear. I have seven collars in two years I have sent three back in and have two more that need to go back already everything has had to go back withing a year of purchasing the two callars that need to go back now are haveing a problem with the switch. . Pull magnet and collar wont come on put magnet on inside of collar and it comes on.

I have two friends that have run quick track for a long long time and they have only had to send collrs in for dead batteries. their stuff seems to work great older gear though wonder if new components arent that great.

I sent mine back last week. They left me stranded again two weekends ago. I had 3 collared dogs out and only 1 collar was working. I was praying they were all together and luckily they were. After I gathered the dogs up I was able to get one of the collars to come back on, but the other would not. They seemed more than happy to help so at least their customer service is good. I wouldn't trade my Quick Track receiver for anything, but not so sure about the collars now. We'll see how the replacements work. I'll give them 1 more chance.
