Got my garmin now I need help

Post by Hunter »

How do I get a more detailed map on the Map Source that comes with your garmin. I have the track log D.L.ed but, it's only white and I can't tell elevations, creeks or anything like that. I have it on my Astro but, I got a more detailed track log from the DC30 and want to check it out. Any help??

I am assuming the disk you have is the trip and waypoint manager, if this is the case the bad news is that you will need to purchase the Mapsource disks for your computer. Then you can upload your hunting area into your Astro and you will have the contour lines, streams, creeks, mountains, and other stuff. There are a couple of guys on this site selling the micro-SD card for your astro pre-loaded with maps, but if you want to mess around with it on your Computer you will need the disks and then you can just load it yourself.

Once you download tracks to your computer on mapsource page, at the top of mapsource you can also hit the view button ,scroll to the bottom and hit view in google earth . That works real good that's what I do it shows you basically everything houses , ridges, mountains, rivers. etc...

Thanks for the help. I figured out how to use Google Earth after you explained it to me. That is an awesome tool. The 3-D is bad ass. I now know whats over that next ridge. Can I up load that to my Astro? I've tried acouple different things but, didn't get it loaded into it. Any advise?
