Leopard Hounds all the way. They can get the job done on bobcats

I agree with the dog discribed by houndnem. They also need to be able to locate, alot of the time I believe bob likes to leave the ground well ahead of the tree and he does't leave any scent at the base. A good dog will recognize this and look up. Have fun cause these little guys will teach you and your dogs plenty.

I think speed in a cat dog is over rated The ability to grub a cold track and then when it gets warmer drift it. Make minimal losses, This is where I dislike a real fast dog. Locate, Locate, Locate. A fast dog seems to make a lot of big losses where the slower track oriented dog does not. I am no means a cat hunter but I aspire to one day quit running my second place dogs and move into the big leagues.
THERE IS NO SECOND PLACE WINNERS

Re: What kind of dogs for bobcat
Ive seen this before and had the same question. I thought about this long and hard and came up with two things, the first is the dogs were running the track on the wind...there trail was down wind of the track, when i noticed this i was not far from the tree, the other assumption i had made was they had jumped the cat and were just on his a$$ and not paying attention the track. Although running it for hours ten feet away i would have to guess wind. or...

I am no bobcat hunter but catchin any type of game is gonna take a different kinda dog depending on where ya live. There are areas out there where I know folks catchin bobcats and makin it look easy and all they are "really" runnin is one or two dogs that are basically just a squirrel dog bred to a coondog to keep it simple. Where ya live and how you like to hunt is gonna make all the difference in the world on what kinda dog you keep.
