Lion behavior

Post by leghound »

This year I have heard of alot more lions being spotted in roads and around houses. There seems to be alot more guys catching them lately. I've heard from a couple people say that the wolves we have now have the lions changing thier behavior. It would stand to reason since Idaho is wide open on lions so I don't think we are getting more lions, it has been a good year for game, Do you guys think lions will change thier behavior or do they go in some kind of cycle where some just don't care?

Different country but I have heard of more lion sightings this year than ever.
Wolves dont have a big impact on them here because the cats spend a lot of time at elevation, where the wolves don't go and cant hunt.
Big cats here tend to spend more time down with the elk, amongst the wolves and the wolves are doing as well as any other species...
I personally saw more fawns this year than any other year as well, I believe we're definitely at a high point in natures cycle... it is inevitable what is coming likely sooner than later.

We are seeing the same things happening in NM. Ithink there is 2 main reason this happening

1) people feeding deer
2) Developing rural areas near lion and deer country. The developing has actually made better deer habitat better with golf coarse, ponds, clearing of canopy cover allow browse species to grow. The developed habitat is better than the national forest.

Another reason is when a female gets killed with 6 month or so old kittens, the kittens big enough and experienced enough to hunt and kill deer. But they are bifg enough to survive on killing, rabbits, fral cats, pets and half tame deer that live in towns. So thats where they get ther food thats where they stay.

90% of the town lions ive delt with have been mature cats so I feel the first two reasons are the main cause
