That is one big kitty! I was noticing the length of the body compared to the width of two guys shoulder to shoulder.

Thanks for the pic.

I beleive the old fellow on the right is Uncle Jimmie Owens and this was up in the Kaibab on the North Rim many moons ago. Jimmie was one of the greatest lion hunters ever and took many clebrities and stars on early lion hunting trips. Zane Grey, Clark Gable and many others. There is a statue of him and a history of his hunting feats in the Grand Canyon Lodge.

That is a damn nice pic! look at the size of his front paws. that would be an honest 8 footer or better. puts the ones killed now days caimed to be 8 foot and 200lbs into perspective. I would love to know the honest stats on that cat. legnth, weight and skoal size. funny thing is back then most of them didn't care.
"Houndn'Ems Blueticks" if it smells like a cat, they'll catch it.

Douglas fir I am sure they are and the North Rim has plenty of Arizona Douglas Fir trees.

These was a real cat and I am sure like you said they never much cared in them days but they sure did make the tourists perk up and watch their back track. Still do. LOL!

If you have never been to tyhe North Rim of the Grand Canyon you are missing a real treat. South Rim is fine and that is on the beaten path but the North Rim is to me the Canyon.

Have you ever been top the North Rim Kaibab? Can we say moisture? Lots of it!

Ha! Ha! A lot of guys just like those making those Grand Canyon commericals think all of Arizona is saguaro cactus. Hell there ain't a saguaro cactus anywhere near the grand canyon. thats big poderosa pines, douglas fir and pinion juniper country.

And snow in the winter I mean deep! Hell Flagstaff that is just a nubbin off the canyon gets record snowfalls.

Zane Gray wrote a book about hunting with Uncle Jimmie Owens. It's called "Roping Lions In The Grand Canyon". If you getting the 1st edition there are some unreal photo's. There are pictures of lions on leg chains in there camp & photos of lions hog tied in panniers on there horses. I got the book to read out the library. Mark

Probably around Bright Angel Point or Jacob's Lake. Look at this map of the North Rim you will even see a trail Named after Uncle Jimmie.

Lots of big old trees up in that country
