Thanks for the comment. I build my own trail cameras, better components and cheaper then the store bought ones. It's bascially a 4 mp sony camera taking the pics. We have got some neat pics over the years. Here are a few more...

Thanks for sharing the pics. Most days I'm doing good to turn a game camera on. Then you raise the bar and I have to try and build one.

Those are some great photos. Looks like 4 different locations. What can you tell me about how you chose those sites for the camera?

Scratches? near kills? etc

I'm really good at taking pictures of bushes blowing around! The last time I set up a trail camera, I took 2,500 hundred pics of the wind blowing bushes around in 5 days. I set the camera up to watch a cave where a female lion had been hanging out with her cub. Every day around noon, the wind picked up and I ran out of memory on the camera.

Dan V--

Yea just put the camera on scratching sites or areas you trail thru often, that's the best way I know of to get pics.

Dan V,

You might need to get an IR activated camera instead of the motion ones. I have one of both and my Leaf river only takes pictures of things with body heat where my Moultrie takes pictures of anything moving.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the info on the cameras. The trail cameras I was using were pretty low tech compared to the newer ones. They took numerous D batteries and are the size of a large phone book (not very easy to pack around).

I've only casually shopped around looking for new ones. I thought they were all motion activated. That would help out a lot on the wind, if they were only activated by body heat.

What kind of trail cameras are people using and having good luck with?

That is the best picture of a lion and scrape I have ever seen. This is so descriptive when you enlarge it! Great stuff!

No doubt on the hind feet because a lion doesn't move it's front feet once it goes into that position as i am sure many of you have observed by clear or snow tracks.
