New to the site, looking for a tracking system
Just got back in to hog and bear hunting and im looking at the garmin gps units with the dc 40 collars. Is there a better system out, or on the way? Or do I need to stick to the old wildlife and the 219s? Looking for some feedback. Thanks!!

I can't complain about Garmin yet. Go to the Garmin products link on this forum. Buddy has great deals if you call him first. Double U Graphics is the name of his company. Wildlife is a good system though too if you don't mind telemetry but GPS shows you excatly where they are at. DC40's aren't out yet that I know of though.

GPS is the only way to go, you can learn a ton of info watching them on the astro hand held. Marshal is supposed to come out with something but who knows when.

dont bother with the dc 40s The 30s work just the same and are cheaper, I wrap my collars with electrical tape and they have held up for two and a half years now.there isnt enough change in the dc 40s to make them worth any more. JMO

I agree with jcalder. Some guys like to say the GPS doesn't work far enough. I haven't used a telemetry collar at all in a couple years. I would go with the Garmin and the DC-30 work just fine.

With the gps you should be able to stay close enough not to lose signal. Since ours got fixed, i dont know how i lived without it.

Komatsuvarna,
if you have the wildlife already I would say stick with it. I have used telemetry side by side with the Garmins and so far not impressed. They are neat when you have a signal but getting a signal is the problem here in this country. they work off radio signal not Satelites. I get a better signal from my collars(Telemetry) than the other guys get with the garmins. JMO!

Well thanks for all the replies!! Ive been using the beep beep for about 3 years. It could be me, but ive never been able to pin point to good. Its all mountain terrain and alot of the times you can get a beep anywere you point it. Kinda like it just bounces around everwere. Ive had to leave dogs overnight before cause I cant pin point were there at. Thinking about selling the wildlife box and getting an astro and running both collars to see how it works. The guys i hunt with could always track the johnsons if the gps craps out.
