lion scent on bobcats
lion scent on bobcats
i was wondering if you catch a bobcat and put lion scent on it and let it go for your hounds to trail will that work?
Re: lion scent on bobcats
work for what? are you trying to teach a dog to chase lions? lots of easier ways to start a lion dog. my experiance has been if a dog will catch a bobber, he will smoke a lion. be a little more specific on your question and maybe I can give you my opinion.
"Houndn'Ems Blueticks" if it smells like a cat, they'll catch it.

Houndnem is right. If your dogs will run a bobcat or even a housecat they will most likely run a lion. A cat is a cat and the bigger the cat the more scent it leaves.
Personally I do not believe in those bottled scents. You are better off getting them on the real deal. I train my pups on scratches and cats I have turned loose if they are available.

Re: lion scent on bobcats
As Houndnem mentioned bobcats are a lot harder to catch than lions. Racoons or ferel cats but I am pretty sure it is illegal in this state.
Re: lion scent on bobcats
my best luck training them from the start with no help has been to find a fresh track,(especially in snow) and walk the dog down the track on a lead coaxing them on. when the dog is ready he will not be able to contain himself. when he opens with his nose in the track cut him loose and tell him get em. he might get smoked a few times till he learns to locate, but sooner or later he will jump the lion and it will be on like donkey kong. my first lion I ever treed with my pups, I had to keep it in the tree barking at it until my dogs circled back and realized what was going on. it only takes once or twice doing this before the will always want to smell and run a lion track. it also helps when training from scratch if you have a kill tag so they get the reward when they finally do catch. I'm not big on killin a bunch of lions, but it will definately help young dogs if they get to chew on it. well, hope this helps and good luck. keep us posted on the progress and if you ever make it down around so. utah come and turn em in.
