Looks like the guts in but still nice bear for WI. Dog season doesnt open for another 5 days, bear was killed in a county that has lots of corn, and no dog zone, but still nice bear

I know pics can be deceptive, but if that bear is over 400 I'll kiss your ..... well anyway, cool that they got a nice bear. I just wish people would quit exagerating their kills so much on the web. I'm tickled to hear they got the bear, they don't have to top it off by saying its 700 lbs.
"Houndn'Ems Blueticks" if it smells like a cat, they'll catch it.

Yea I agree, but it was a certified scale, and the news, if you notice the side walls, its at least 10 feet, look at the bears rear feet, huge, oh, start kissing
Re: bait sitter, kills 736lb bear in WI
houndnem you should be quiet when you dont know what your talking about. If you look at the surroundings in the picture you can see that the bear is huge.

field dressed that bear would be barely over 600. which is big for WI but not huge.

I think the state record is 660 something dressed, what world are you in?
Re: bait sitter, kills 736lb bear in WI
i was actually being somewhat gracious with my estimate - if you go with -20% after field dressing, then it would be 589 pounds. a bear this big could easily be -25%, which would end up being 552.
the southern half of wisconsin is going to be crawling with these big boys in the future. tons of food to eat and nothing to bother them. the dnr has done a great job of miscounting the population for years now and they are spreading south like crazy.

nice bear but i too am a little skeptical on the weight. it was on a certified scale so i guess it's official but if you look where the tail is and the head, it's not much taller than the guy standing to the right. Anyhow, nice bear and yeah i am jealous of the guy but we start on wednesday so hopefully i will have a picture to match it.

The boys on the east coast, get some bigger then this though.
Ron,
I'm with you. I know I've never been a part of a hunt where a 6 hundo dresseed was flopped on the tailgate. I consider an entire season a success if we get one bear over 400. Contrary to popular belief, there ain't many that size roaming around the areas I hunt.
eROKv, For some reason I thought the number was 18% on guts weight for a bear. But from what I've seen in bigger bear, I really think the % goes down the larger the bear once it gets over 350. The frame of a 400 isn't that much different than a 500, it's just the amount of fat on it's back.
Who taught these guys to hang a bear. You ALWAY hang them by the head for a pic, way more impressive. Then you just have to drop them down to start skinning out the feet.
I don't think Joey is the guy to ask on the live weight/dressed weight issue.
Re: bait sitter, kills 736lb bear in WI
whatever the weight actually is, it really bothers me when people don't field dress animals right away. they probably drove around with it in the back of their truck all day too. might as well throw all that meat away.
i've known joey since he was 2ft tall and he's never stood next to a certified scale that he didnt have his foot on! haha j/k
