Southeast Lions?

Hey Guys, I live in North Alabama and being interested in lion hunting, its very hard being in the south. It is illegal to kill a lion in Alabama, but the game wardens will tell you and posted on their website that no breeding population lives in Alabama. I have seen friends trail cameras and see actual pictures myself of others. Was Hoping someone in Alabama or the southeast for that matter has treed a lion or had a run in with one. I have coon hunted but would really like to try my luck at it. I Have the sand mountain range which runs all the way up to Tennessee and outside Chattanooga. One evening my dad and i were driving on highway 79 right below the mountain range and seen a mountain lion run across the highway. The reason I KNOW it was a lion is because it took only hit the highway one time and was tan with a 3 foot tail on it. 100% sure.

I would be surprised if they were'nt there. I saw one about 6 years ago here comming home from 4th of july fireworks. Course fish and game will give this song and dance about there being none or that it must be one that was released or escaped captivity bla bla bla.

IM thinking about setting up a game camera with some bait and see if i can get any pictures. Should i buy some trail scent and put it out? Has this ever worked for anyone?

If you want to get pictures of one put up an attractor something shiny soup can lid or a grouse or turkey wing etc with a swivel in it hanging in the air so it can be seen far and wide. A littlle lion gland lure wont hurt but place this all this in a major crossing or over look. They like rocks and high points they can hunt and see from. Remember curiosity killed the cat and K.I.S.S. keep it simple stupid is what you should live buy with any kind off cat. Bait wont work all that well because they arn't scavangers. They are killing machines and like fresh meat.

I treed a lion 10 years ago near whitewater falls at nc/sc state line. it was just an accident while coon hunting. The eastern population will probably grow to the point that it will not be so rare to spot one. The one i treed was not the only one i have seen in the east. The gland lure is your best bet to get one to show up.

I sure wouldn't doubt their Here !! The Elk are doing Very well in SW. Virginia, Ky, SW West Va. and the Deer Populations are Very High allover...

Their is Just So Much Feed that they could lay-up for long periods of time with each kill .. This would reduce their movements and odd chances of being seen ..

For the gland lure, check Graw's. Cat nip can work as well - mountain lions are the world's largest house cats. As well as the areas already mentioned, lions will travel through saddles in rough country. If you can find a saddle just above some rim rocks, or bluffs, that would be a good place to put a camera. Also remember that lions won't force thier way through obstacles. They will always travel the easiest routes.
