Well according to your report, that would put it at 14.4% body weight of a live animal and 16.8% of dressed weight. I know it also depends on what/when they just got done eating. Just like how a bobcat weighs more after munching on a snowshoe, than it does after traveling.

Bear weights are usually shaded high, but not by a 150 to 180lbs. It's a lunker even if it was only 450lbs dressed. Besides how many meat markets would let a story circulate where their "certified" scale was off by even 50lbs.

I guess I won't be buying meat from that palce, probably would charge me for 5 lbs of steak when there is only 1 lb in the package! I have seen alot of bears in WI and unless that bear has a belly full of lead no way that is over 700 lbs. Just because they ran a news story about it doesn't make it true! If any of you saw that pic of the bear that the guy shot illegally in WI a couple of years ago that bear was bigger than this one and I don't think that one went over 700.

I would think that by now most of us realize that you cannot tell the size of anything from a picture. If the guys took two steps back behind the bear, it would look like a whale. I believe it, not because it is a news story, not because the guy says it is that big, not because it is a certified scale, not because the game dept checked and verified it. But mostly because you have the size coming from 4 different sources. In the trail cam pick it looks like a big bear to me. I am very skeptical of people boasting the size of animals, but this sounds like the real deal to me.

George, you are very logical and, I believe correct. These "doubting Thomases" who think they can judge from a picture are, nicely said, incorrect.

i call it a scam. Agreed with bearintheair. That one shot last year illegally was way bigger and was said to weigh even less

I say it is true or real close to true. As for everyone thinking they can judge the weight of the bear by looking at 1 picture...Ha. Shows you might be a bit wet behind the ears yet. Big bear are getting shot in Wisconsin every year and every year they are getting bigger. Last year we had that giant near Tripoli, now this year we had a monster shot by Glen Flora and the one by Shawno. Just because one of us didn't shoot it don't be so quick as to call it bull. Its a nice bear period, and I would love to have had my dogs on his butt.

It looks like the kid is standing 6 feet behind the bear.I am not sure if this one was weighed on a certified scale.Still a huge bear no matter what.

If I recall correctly. The largest black bear ever recorded was 880LBS. Believe that was also a live weight. So 700lbs is a big animal anywhere the black bear roams! What does make me sick is most of the time a critter that big is taken out with the guts in and paraded around. At least in WI. What I have found in other states is most of the time weights are only guessed at. The animal is quartered in the field. So a dressed weight is only guessed at. Heck, a lot of the time weights are still only guessed at. A lot of cheap folks out there not willing to spend $20 on a scale. I have seen at least 3 bear this year that would be luckily to go over 125. Yet the shooters are prancing around pounding on their chests. Saying how the bears were well over 200. One actually thought 400. Bears are hard to judge anytime. A scale and tape measure. Do not lie. No matter how many bear you have seen.

There Have been 3 big bear for sure taken in WI so far this year. The 2 that have been posted already. As well as another one around 600. The last one is said to be potetially the next state record. Skull size is what the records go by. Green that one is supposed to go 23 1/2. Not sure if that was measured with the hide on though? There was allso another that was rumored to be shot that was 597 dressed. Taken by hounds in either onieda, or Price county by the Bootjack crew. Have not seen any pics, or heard anything else about this one. Also did see the pics of another that was 527 dressed. That was a hog as well. Several others in the 400lb + range. All very good bear!!

Too Cheap to Sped $20 on a certified scale   Go chase raccons if you can't afford to bear hunt :beer cant recall how many 250 lbs'ers I have helped drag to the truck that the next day suddenly became 390 lb'ers Safe to say MOST bear hunters can't even GUESSTIMATE the real Weight before scaling :agmnt or at least taking measurements
