Magnetic roof mount
I want to get another magnetic roof mount base for my marine radio and I don't remember where I got the last one. Can I use the bases made for a cb radio?

What part of northern california are you. If you are close to corning or redbluff go to the yak yak shack. They know a lot about what their doing and will set you up good.

Re: Magnetic roof mount
I'm pretty sure that is where I got the last one and I'm thinking it was pretty cheap. Problem with them is I tried to call them several times and nobody answered the phone, I was hoping to find out something before I made the trip.

Re: Magnetic roof mount
Ebay's the shit for stuff like that, No you can't use a cb base the antenna's mount to the magnetic base differently....go to ebay and look up antenna farm, they have any antenna you can think of for any band of radio,cb, marine(VHF),two way's(UHF)<---I think,They may even have a roof mount for tracking...

Re: Magnetic roof mount
I'm with you on this one norcal what?????
They are all the same you can use any base as long as the whip you have will fit it, all that has to be done is the whip has to be tuned to your frequency you are running the VHF run around 156–158 MHz. So by cutting down the whip you can pick up range you want. You can even buy any base and whip you like cut down for 216-221 Mhz add a bnc connector and use as a roof top for tracking your dogs. Ebay is a great way to find deals but after shipping it is cheaper to get them locally, and when you get you stuff off ebay it still has to be cut down to the right range and you will then be paying a cb shop to tune it to your radio. All of the whips and base's I have bought from them they have never charge to tune it for me.

Re: Magnetic roof mount
I did go down there today and I bought a new uniden solara, two 5 inch magnet bases, an antenna for my marine radio, and an antenna for my tracking box, and got it all in the one place and done in about 10 minutes. The only thing is I have to go back with one of the bases tomarrow ans have the connector for one of the bases changed over for my tracking box. It ended up being right at $260.00 for everything.
Thanks for everyones help.

Re: Magnetic roof mount
You can get a bnc to coax connector from there are any radio shack that just screws on and off then you can still use the base for your cb if you ever need to.

Re: Magnetic roof mount
Well then I stand corrected...............
Ebay is still cheap and alot of times i find free shipping. The only thing is you got me on the waiting for it part. When i broke a base one time on my marine I had an extra base for a cb and wanted use it but the spring and the piece its attached to was bigger than the skiny fine threaded piece comeing from the base of the cb. maybe I could of bought a cb whip and spring combo from radio shack which i have befor but it was for my cb.I didn't want to rig something up because I consider my radio my live line. But hay if it gets out just fine well then right on.
I don't think I confused you Norcal, I think that was just another one of your smart ass remarks and I could care less mine getts out just fine too and as long as every bodys shit works the way they want it to well then F-it.

Re: Magnetic roof mount
Radar, I did look all of it up on ebay also. It would have been slightly cheaper to buy all the equipment, but after shipping and waiting so long it was just as cheap to go to the yak yak shack and they are very knowledgeable. The difference is the actual antenna not the base. Now we all know
Livetohunt, thanks for suggesting radio shack, I usually forget about them.
