Tone VS Leading
Tone VS Leading
looking for opinions. Toning a dog away from the tree versus leading the dogs away. Let me know what you think???
Re: Tone VS Leading
my dogs will walk out from a tree just by telling them, come on lets go, they dont need to be leashed they will walk out right right beside you. i dont know how they were trained but how ever it was done it, it is real nice. my younger dogs do this also but i think they are just following my older dogs because i have never taught them that.

Teach them as pups to come then when you hunt them they will come off a tree by just calling them. I have 11 week old pups that will come as far as they can hear me call them by name. There is no reason to have it any other way. Dewey

I only tone my dogs off the game if I physically cant get there because the terrain or if they have gone onto private property that I cannot go to. On occasion I will tone a lost dog just to make sure he knows the hunt is over and he needs to return.

That is the only way to own a dog. I am the alpha dog and I say when it's time to hunt and when it's time to go home or find something else to hunt. Proper obedience training when young saves many headaches later.dwalton wrote:Teach them as pups to come then when you hunt them they will come off a tree by just calling them.
