there are guys up there by you runnin plotts english and walkers i hear of a few blues up there first ya gotta find them then you need grit any old bear line should be able to get stove up and be back at it after a few days if they cant they are not bear dogs .all bear lines have enough gritt,or they would not still have a line.most like you guys are sayin some times wont let a bear go up a tree they keep bitin his rear you need enough grit but to much vet bills dog fights etc i think the dogs down in the carolinas and virginia on the coast have it the ruffest big bears on the ground briar patches thorns from hell here you can be ten feet from the bear and not see him but that said them dogs are the same dogs everyone else runs up north etc you want dogs with grit get one from there but there the same bloodline as montana michigan wisconsin newyork maine etc pic a color and dive in
i think the plott guys bark and growl the most then the cur guys but the cow patched dogs tree the most game and bragg the least amount think we gotta work on that  walkers and english guys spend to much time in the woods to know how to use a computer  only after seein 40 or 50 dogs in the woods did i buy my dogs
after a long shoot out with a drug dealer wearin a bullet proof vest the old cop was asked did you feel out guned he said no i rather shoot staight with my 38 than give jive with a 45  after a few drinks that will sound relivant :beer li freediver

no one can possibly know from one snapshot what the dogs did working this bear . but one thing is for sure dogs that are scared of a bear dont get that close . good snapshot.

Well Kordog, sounds as if you got it all figured out. Just a few words about dogs and how close they will get. They may seem tough and not scared at five feet, but I'm going to tell you the last five feet are the toughest for a dog to close. JMO

Ive always been a serious coonhunter, & I dont have much experiance yet with REAL bear dogs, but that looks like a darn nice picture to me of a mixed pack doin a good job. If for some reason these r not true bear dogs because there teethe r not sunk in fur during the picture, than I would be glad to feed them if there gonna be culled! LOL

Thanks for posting

Before this post went to hell in a handbasket, several people mentioned Albert bred B&T's. I own one out of Five Time Albert and he's a year old. He's as good of dog as I have owned, but "gritty" is not one of the words I'd use to describe him. He's just now starting to wool over a coon OK. And he's seen more than one to try on. He's big, stout, consistant, loud, honest, supprisingly fast, but gritty he's not.

Well kordog in my opinion there is only two types of bear dogs, bite dogs or cowards. Bay dogs serve no purpose other then making noise. So a question, what type of dogs did you see in the picture?

Catch,

It must be hard for you to find your dogs when they get a bear caught on the ground..... With all that biting and no baying going on  ..... Thank god for the Garmin so you Plott guys can just follow the screen into the stretched bear  .

I'll have to agree with catch about the bear in the picture. It's just my thought that if that bear was getting ate up on the ground that he would find place to go up, or better place to do battle. Look at the bear if it wasn't for all the noise he'd be taking a nap.Sometimes two bear dog are better than a pack of average one. Bear dogs are measured in inch not feet.Just my opinion

you mean one type dont you catch as a coward isnt a beardog and neither is a baydog according to you. like i said before you cant tell a whole hunt from one snapshot . i do consider a baydog that is right up in that bears face a beardog as that is the buisness end . i just dont breed to them unless they bite.i guess there are some people that would say what your calling a beardog is a coward if there bitin them in the ass . a dog that is totally fierless would take a bear head on one on one . the only problem is they dont get to breed.lol ! i think most of us bearhunters know whatgrit is we dont need any lessons catch.

Well rico I tell by your remarks you don't do much bear hunting. I have done some, I catch 2-3 bear a year and see very few on the ground. that should tell you somthing right there.

You are right, this doe's tell me something. If you are really only catching 2-3 bear a year, you need some new dogs.I can believe you see very few on the ground.Probably because your butt is glued to the seat of your truck and you just keep picturing those brindle dogs crawling all over that bear.Let's see your pictures of what a real beardog is so I will know when I see one.

So what you are saying you like to feed cheerleaders. If that works for you keep doing it. I don't feed anything I wouldn't breed, and I don't breed anything that doesn't bite! Like I have already said, bay dogs are only there to make noise, if they aren't grabbing they aren't breathing.
