Tag-Along ideas?

I was curious if anyone out there had any good plans for a tag-along to pull behind a sled. I have seen some that use old snowmobile skis and some that even used old snowboards. That one I currently use seems to be too heavy. It has too much iron and weighs a ton. It consists of old sled skis with a meatal bracket to hold my dog box. My dog box is made of wood and holds two dogs. It works fine on packed snow but gets buried in deeper powder. Just looking for any ideas.

we strap our sky kennels right to the rack so we do not have to drag a trailer but if trailers is what you want I myself would utilize a sky kennel rather then plywood, its half the weight. I would then build a snowboard runner system so it glides on top rather then digs in.

Scott how do do you attach your sky kennel to your sled. Do you build a brackett right on top of the rack or do you build it off the back of the rack. I have thought about doing this. Also how many dogs can you carry doing this. Do they get tossed around more by being attached directly to the sled then they would if they are in a trailor? My only concern with the sky kennel is that the dogs would get too cold as compared to being in a wood box.

I removed the factor rails around the luggage rack and added to eye bolts for the rachet straps to attach to. This year I bought a insulated blanket that they sell at cabelas specifically designed for sky kennels.

I fit 2 hounds in the medium and 3 in the large.

That is the same setup we use on our tundras. I've found that an intermediate size works better than a large. Those tundras are tippys SOBs to begin with, but put a crate on the back with dogs jockeyin around and they REALLY tippy.

We generally cut for tracks first, then get the dogs after we've found something. If you were going to haul the dogs and gear around the entire time, I think a sled with a hitch would be a better setup.

We usually leave the hounds in the truck till be cut the track then go back and gear up. All the hounds have been doing this and have settled down over the years and know to just lay down.
Jim likes his large, I use an intermediate with the cover and could not be happier. I have had as many as 3 in a pinch when coming out form a tree bt usually only have 2 in it.
Would not change a thing especially since my sled has reverse and I do not have to unhook the trailer to back up and turn around

Thanks for the idea. I think I may try to fix something up. My main concern is the sled being to tippy. I run tundras and they are already tippy as Nolte said.
