I have fed the Black Gold, and it was wonderful. I got it a pallet at a time and was able to mix and match what was on the pallet. But compared to what I feed now, it was a little spendy. Best food for the price tho, at THAT price. It was a good food, and buying it by the pallet I was able to get it as cheap as about any food that I can go to town to buy, and cheaper then the high dollar foods.
What I am trying now is a sled dog food. http://www.champainefreezedry.com/endorsements.html
This link has some good reading on it. Much study and thought went into the development of this product for dogs that compete in races of 1,000 miles at a time and run for between 9 and 15 days straight. Every day and night, with brief rest at a time. If this is good enough for Iditarod sled dogs, then maybe it will be pretty decent stuff for my dogs that are doing races that are much shorter in distance and in days.
As for price, I can get it as cheap as 37cents a pound if I get the 50lb blocks. If I do the math right, even a 50lb bag of Ole Roy for 22 of yer hard earned dollars works out to around 44cents a pound. I buy the cases of ten pound bags because they are easier to handle and can be seperated so they fit into the freezer better then large blocks. For this I trade a bit on price and pay 43cents a pound for one recipe and 48cents a pound for the other.
Now, the recipes are 83% meat. The first is 31% Beef, 31% chicken, and 21% liver = 83%. The second is 62% beef, 21% liver, and 10% egg.
My dogs love the stuff and seem to be doing great on it. I do add a bit of dry food for trace minerals and such. The dogs have very compact stool as the product is very digestable.
My freezer holds about 250lbs at a time. I expect this to last a month and a half at the rate I am feeding it (2 feedings of 3/4 lb ea). I only have to go about 40min down the hiway to get this stuff. The company I get it from has trucks going all over, so wouldn't hurt to ask about shipping it.
