Bobcat dog onto a cougar or mountain lion?

So we live in Michigan and are looking to head west for a moutain lion hunt, just curious. Out of anybodies experience, can you run a bobcat dog on mountain lion with little to no hitch ? Looking forward to input.

I believe that if a dog will run a bobcat, it will not be an issue to get them to run a lion. They obviously travel in different patterns, but there is no reason they won't try. You should have no problems. Good luck.

If you have a true bobcat catching dog you will have no problem if hunting in similar type conditions.

Lions are much easier for the dogs. Usually shorter race. Let us know how it goes. What state you headed to?

Havent decided yet. Don't want to make the terrain to difficult on the dogs the first time s Tom and I are looking into some prospective areas. Where do you guys suggest?

If you got a good cold nose bobcat dog or two. You will do great, or at least in my experience on snow. Terrain maybe an issue if its to much rock, which they have never worked or seen. My biggest suggestion is put shock collars on the whole works and road them down through some elk, and mule deer. As we dont have that game here. A precaution, as It was suggested to me, and it saved headaches, good luck

Almost any hound that has ever bayed a house cat in a cage remembers the fun times of this.
You will have no problem getting them to charge up on a hot lion track.

Go to Idaho for your cat hunting, these are a few places to go.
Salmon River Range, in central Idaho.
1000 miles of water way with 1000`s of drainages running into it.

If you have a good bobcat dog then catching a lion will be like catching a coon. Especially if you got a hot one, even if you have a cold one and have to get it warmed up once you do and its jumped it will go up a tree pretty quick.

Not all the time do they go right up a tree. just went out the other day jumped a cat and my garmin read 10 miles and never did tree I finally got ahead of my dogs after three canyons and pulled them off, because a storm was rolling in and it was about dark. by the way one of my hounds was a bob cat dog, she hasn't missed a lion track yet.

Of course there are always exceptions, there are certain lions that have been let go and ran several times and some lions that just dont want to be in a tree. Some are mean and will walk and fight. Ive had em tree and jump tree and the dogs just put too much pressure, one sat and fought at the base of a tree, had 2 dogs. The other dogs bit the lion and pushed it up a tree, both got too close. I agree some lions just wont tree, snow depth and conditions play a part sometimes but Ive had em go a few miles and tree and jump, tree and jump and finally stay till I got there.
