Cow Bells

Post by Joe Bliss »

What are ur thoughts on using bells?Any of you think its a nusence to the dog and could make them loose there traid of thought while trackin having to listen to that ring in there ears? Good idea bad idea? I mean if you have the tracking system really no need but sometimes electronics do tend to fail therefore not being to locate. My opinion is they work great you can hear them from a long ways away kinda funny watchin them 4 month pups totin around an anchor around there neck but it gets the job done :)haha What are ur opinions?

I like them just so you can hear your dogs without them barking, and the sound does carry pretty good. I have not noticed any different hunting from the dogs with or without them on.

I used them a lot before tracking collars. At night they helped us to keep track of the dogs. I used bells on my goats and sheep to help keep coyotes away and to tell if they were being chased at night. I would run them on my dogs if I was in a wolf area I think it would help keep the wolves off. Don't know what do you think? Dewey

Hey Joey, I dont really care if I have them on the dogs with gps tracking collars but on the other mutts I love them. You can hear how close the dog is in the brush when they're not barking.I havent noticed any change in the way the dog hunts but I do wonder if it keeps them from hearing me when I yell at them

Small light jingle bells don't think they bother the dogs a bit. Not sure about a heavy cow bell. A friend of mine use to use them for skittish hard to catch dogs. I kinda like listen to the jingle as we rode. Only problem was I would hear them dam bells in my sleep a night!!!

I think that it can get in the way of them hearing your other dogs in the woods. If my dogs are cold trailing and make a lose and one dog moves out and strikes it again,I want the others to hear it and get moving.Take a bell, even a jingle bell and ring it 5 inches from your ear and see how loud you think it is.

we use to use them when I was a kid . now I dont care for them , my cousin still has them on his dogs and when you are walking out coon hunting the dang bells are right around all the time and they drive me crazy .and you cant here the other dogs when those bells are chimeing . but like you say if you dont have gps collars and they are not barking the bells are nice to locate your dogs
