'Nother lion huntin story

Post by sheimer »

I took all the dogs out today with my 9 year old boy. I had my 3 yr female and her two pups and my B&T yearling. We went for a walk up to my favorite little spot. It's only a couple miles from where you can drive to. I just freecast the dogs out in front of us as we walked up the trail looking at tracks and pine cones and trees and rocks and all the other things that grab a 9 year old's attention. As we got up to where the coulee narrows up the dogs start acting gamey and head up the trail ahead of us a few hundred yards. I call them back so I can keep tabs on them. As they all come back, my older female crosses the creek and starts to open. I trust her so I let the other dogs go to her. They all crossed the creek and went to the palisades and everyone is opening now. They trailed all afternoon in the cliffs and rock slides. No snow to help out. We ended climbing all the way to the top of the hill and walking back empty handed. I think they may have run it backwards, but I could never find a decient track to let me know for sure. Oh Well, I had a nice day with my boy and our dogs.

This is what they were working in all day. The dog in the pic is a 6 month old male out of my female and Andy's Topper Again. His mom is just ahead of him.

Scott, I think I am going to have to try and make my dogs into dry grounders also as been crappy snow conditions so far! If a cat walkes across my deck tonite its in trouble  as the deck got a lite dusting and thats it. :(
The home of TOPPER AGAIN bred biggame hounds.
