Lion hunting story

Post by carlisle »

So this is the first story I have ever posted but works slow right now so I might as well share...so I had the good fortune of owning a awesome lion hound early in my life. That dog made my life of being a rookie in the sport bareable. But She died this spring due to complications of having pups she was only 7 years old. So that left me with my now almost 2 year old redbone and I kept one of her male offspring. So this year I knew i would have to help the dogs along a little more then years past but I was optimistic about my Redbone being able to get the job done as he had made several lion trees and a couple bobcat trees last season..
So now for the story we cut one before the sun came up but it looked to be just a female so our search continued...never did find another track so we came back to the female track to run for fun it was about noon by this time and the track was starting to melt.. but i let the two idiots go and the took it good and pretty soon the garmin said they were 700 yards away so we start hiking and eventually catch up with the dogs who had lost the trail in a meadow full of elk and deer tracks and not much snow.. so we played the try the next canyon over and see if it crossed game for a few canyons and we kept finding the track which was getting more and more melted out..but we decided to try one more loop where the track was heading and see if it had come out anywhere and just as we were about to give up there in the trail was a super fresh lion track as by this time all tracks made that night or that morning were nothing but holes in the snow but this track was crisp and clear and had apparently ran across the trail when it heard us coming ...it wasnt the same track and it was a dinkie track but we just wanted to chase so i let the idiots go again this time they blew out of there bellowing and ran it down a deep draw and up a bare hill side and started treeing at about a mile away. so we head off down there and in the tree is one of the smallest lions i have ever treed and not only that it only has three feet and was looking kinda skinny. but i guess beggars cant be choosers and both dogs were up in the lions face treeing so i felt good about it ill try and get some pics of the little guy on here

I like it. Gus takes a moment and poses for a picture shoot. Cool dog.

That cat is probably dead from starvation by now.
