Dogs catching coyotes
Anyone hunting by letting their dogs running coyotes down and baying them up or do most of you shoot them in front of your dogs. I have alot of public ground that aint much good for anything but coyotes. Rolling hills along a good sized river. Thought about trying to get some running dogs and hunting them off horseback. Anyone do that kind of hunting?

i foxhunt as well and they do catch them from time to time....most times when i catch them im hunting on the outside with my personal hounds and they catch em in the deep snow. coyote runs threw makes path and them hounds have easier runnin so they catch it

Re: Dogs catching coyotes
you guys ever get them bayed up or caught on dry ground (no snow)...the dang things are over running us here in my neck of the woods and pester a coondog to death anytime they are trailing or treeing. i'd love to start putting a little "hound fear" in them lol.
Re: Dogs catching coyotes
we shoot most of our yotes, but we do bay them up on snow aand dry ground also. the dry ground bays are few and far in between though. as for putting fear into them, i really don`t think that will happen. almost every nite i run my coonhounds i have yotes come into them at tree and these are the same places i run yotes. coyotes just get alot braver at nite, they know when they`re being chased or not.

Re: Dogs catching coyotes
We usually don’t even have a gun with us. But we don’t get nearly as many as a lot of guys. If our dogs catch one and take care of it, great. If they can’t get it caught then the yote lives to run another day. There are some guys around here that shoot them in front of the dogs too. We aren’t over run with yotes around here and it can be tough to find one to run some days. So we aren’t too worried about thinning the population.

You want to Run Dogs, UR Invited.
Re: Dogs catching coyotes
we shoot them if we can. we run a lot of bigger sections, dogs usually get a good hour chase in before anyone punches any lead through em.
