"new" dog acclimation period
So, when a guy buys a new dog, how long is a fair period of time to allow for the dog to get acclimated to its surroundings? I know I've seen several dogs that on arrival and the first few times out looked completely worthless and wouldn't have paid .02 cents for them; however they seem to come around eventually. I know dog personality plays a big role but I'm just curious what a fair/adequate time is to allow for acclimation? How long til they should be doing everything they were doing with their previous owner?

i think it is different for each dog, but i would think within 2-4 weeks it would, if it took more than a month i would start wondering if the dog is what the previous own told me he/she was.

Re: "new" dog acclimation period
I'm using a redbone cross that was given to me last March. A friend of mine payed good money for him and hadn't hunted him for about six months. He told me to take him because he knew that I would use him. I tried him for about a month and he wouldn't do anything. I told my friend that I appreciated him thinking about me, but I was bringing him back. He told me that he bought him after he had hunted with the guy several times and had seen him find five hogs. After about another month the dog seemed to warm up to me and started hunting pretty decent. He's not the best I've been with but he is functional. He seemed sad to be at my place for the first couple of months. Maybe I grew on him a little bit. LOL If I would have been trying to buy the dog on a trial I probably wouldn't have been as patient, but I liked the price of this particular dog.
