using breaking scents?

Post by valleyhound »

Do breaking scents work or do they turn your dog on to the smell? I have seen the collars that you soak with scent and the dog wears it. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions. If you have used breaking scents, how you use it, and how often to use it, and how long it takes to make your dog sick of it.

I have never used it where you put it on the dog so they get sick of it in fact I have never bought it I have used dead posums and skunks and deer hides to with traning collers but not sure I would want to make them where the scent I feel thet could create a real problum. may be someone will jump on here that knows a little more about it.

it actually works well to a point. freshin it up everyday and the day you notice the dog turning from you do it two more weeks and thats it. on the other hand a dogs sanctuary is it living area and its place to heal rejuvenate and what not. look at it this way how would like some one coming to your house and farting everyday for weeks at a time. i have used the method twice before as a last resort but finally determined it is less frustrating to get another dog and do away with the head strong dog.

Ive seen dogs stretch a coon, get back in the truck and still be able to rig a coon 2 min later with coon scent smeared all over their face. I don't know why deer scent would be any different. My theory on trash is a little different than most. I try to set my dogs up for success. In other words show them so many cats and so few deer that it's a no brainer when they are faced with the choice. when drycasting, tritronics if they trash. my best dog would probly still chase a deer once and a while, but I don't make it a big issue. have a couple trash races throughout the year and move on with my life. keep showing them what makes me happy and what makes me mad, they aim to please.One season I took a fresh deer hide and messed around with my dogs . I had them to where they were petrified of that hide but guess what? that didn't end my trash problem, not even close. my vote (which don't count for much) is save your time and money and try something else.
"Houndn'Ems Blueticks" if it smells like a cat, they'll catch it.
