Re: Penicillin
Read the bottle. Use same dosage as for livestock per pound.

1 (one)CC per 30lbs every 24hrs. My understanding is that you can not overdose on penicillin. And overdosing is better than underdosing. This helps keep pencillian resist "bugs" from occuring. Not a vet just works for me. Hog cuts can be bad. Hope that helps Craig

Thanks for the info!!!Where do ya'll give it at under the skin on the back of the neck like a 7in1 shot or in a muscal or oral?I would think oral wouldn't be a good choice but I've read that you can give it just like wormer and it will do the same as injecting it.

Re: Penicillin
It's 1cc per 10-15 lbs SQ, under the skin. You can do it intramuscular, but most dogs don't like that too much. I work at a Vets office, and we do this daily. I treat all my dogs with coon bites with Pen G. Shake it well, and let it get almost room temp, makes it easier to draw up and give. I usually only give my dogs a shot of it every other day until they are healed up.

1cc per 10 pounds is how we do it and if it's bad we do this twice a day for about 3-5 days. And yes, you need to sq it. DO NOT give IM.

Re: Penicillin
From my personal experience you can over dose an animal with penicilin we have a house dog that had a absest in her mouth and my grandpa gave her 5cc two days in a row it dint kill her but you could touch her for about a week she wouldent eat or move move for bout 4days she wouldent even eat soft dog food
I also think if you give it to them to many days in a row their body builds up a tolerance to it

How do you know that the infection was not the cause of the dog not eating? It may have died without the penicillan. Secondly, I have no idea what you mean by the dog building up a tolerance to an anti-biotic. That literally makes no sense at all. New anti-biotics have to be invented all of the time because people "under dose" them and then the bacterial infection mutates and a new strain of it is develped basically and the old anti-biotic will not work anymore.

Penicillian G have coverage for 8 hours. So, I give 3cc in the muscle, and 3cc under the skin, under the skin takes longer to obsorb, so you have 16 hrs in the day coverage instead of 8 hrs. Came right from my vet.

same here ron. my old vet (i mean he has been a vet for 50+ years) shoots it right in to the back leg muscle as soon as i put the dog on the table. when we are done stitching and stapling he gives another under the skin in the neck.

That will most definately work in my opinion because of the small amount you are givin the dog IM. I just wont give a 60 pound dog 6cc in one area cuz it can do damage and I definately wont give one of my 90 pound coyote dogs 9 or 10 cc there.

Re: Penicillin
read the label and tell me how many mg/ml and with that i can calculate the dose in accurate way, you are using pediatric suspension, intramuscular or tablet?
and the doses depending of penicillin vary from every 6 hour to every 12 hours.
this is for penicillin
Mild-to-moderate infections:
I.M., I.V.: 100-150 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 6 hours (maximum: 2-4 g/day) .
Oral: 50-100 mg/kg/day in doses divided every 6 hours (maximum: 2-4 g/day) .
Severe infections/meningitis: I.M., I.V.: 200-400 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 6 hours (maximum: 6-12 g/day)
check this page have dose for every penicillin
use pediatric dose.
