PBR/Rodeo Fans

Post by Shorty »

Folks Jube Baker just sent me a couple cool pictures of him fighting bulls. I was just wondering how many rodeo or bull riding fans we had on here. I know we have three or four bull fighters on the forum. How many of you would like to see some photos and stories of what these people do. Any bull riders, ropers, bronc riders, or whatever could put some up. Just thought it might be fun to see.

Good input so far. Driftwood, this my 18th season as a bullfighter. I lost count of the wrecks a long time ago. I think we've got a lot of people here on the site that rodeo'd at one point in their lives. Must be some sort of connection here, maybe it's the abuse of body and mind that we all like so well. I hope Buddy doesn't mind as I know this is a hound site.

Mofo,
From a very young age (5) all I wanted to be was a bullfighter. I hung around them at every rodeo I could possibly get to. When I was 14 I was at an amateur rodeo and the bullfighter didn't show up. Because the producer knew me from hanging around all those years he gave me the chance to show my stuff. That was the first time I fought a bull and haven't looked back since.

In the old days you were both a clown and bullfighter or you were out of a job. As time went on they slowly separated into their own specialty jobs. Wick Peth was the first bullfighter to get hired as only a bullfighter and not a clown too. I'd say now days most of us are in the same job as they started in. Besides I'm not very funny and would go broke trying to make people laugh. Hope that helps.

I rode in am shows and open bull ridings for about eight years. Still somewhat follow PBR and PRCA as I still have a few friends going. Wouldn't trade the experience for anything.

Rode a ton out west in the 90's, wiley peterson and i had plans to travel right when he made it on tour. Needless to say he made it on tour and I got my face stepped on then got married. Pretty much the same result.
Things are fixin to change.

The silcox and woolsey kids live around the corner heck we used to kick them out form behind the chutes. Now a days they drive by and throw rocks at me.
Needless to say the transition from rodeo to hounds was easy alot like rodeo you can take it as far as you want and no dang team nor politics. Watchin the dogs roll over another ridge is like drawin the contractor special (eliminators) were gonna find out what your made of.

Good to see success has not strayed you from your roots Shorty!!

P.S. I hate the draft!!!!!
Wish I could have picked mine, but cowboys play the hand delt!!

I was rodeoing for casper college team roping, calf roping, and steer wrestling. Time event guys help out during rough stock practise and vise versa. They need a bull fighter so I jumped in. after practice a friend and I were "the bullfighters", we were using Bill and Donna Larson's (triple V) young bulls. The word got out that they were bucking good bulls and had decent bull fighters so moms were letting thier high school kids come and get on. Bull riders passing through would stop in a get on a practice bull. we were bucking at least 30 head twice a week. I was getting more confident but if you know Bill he doesn't say much but what he does says helps out a ton. Hank Franzen (Powder River) stopped in to look at some of the young stock Bill had. I have known Hank and lorie since I started high school rodeo as a freshman Jill was a year older and john was three years younger. Didn't think much of it till Hank had two rodeos in on weekend so he asked me to go to the high school rodeo to work it. I was going down a great rode with plunty of help but it all had to come to and end when Dad said get your ass home and work!!!
