The problem is the pups bone plates are groing to fast and at differant rates. I have found it best if this is happening to feed a lesser quality food as well as smaller amounts. Mike

BigFoot I believe you hit it. I gave a nice English pup to a buddy. He let the pup eat as much as he wanted all day long. The pup grew fast and he became bow legged. He pulled the food and the pup came out of it. It was bad bowlegged to.

it's either too much or too little the real issue is correctly diagnosing the problem. maybe you should ask your vet to earn his check and run some real test to get to the bottom of it. instead of guessing

im surprised the vet didnt suggest that right away. "REAL TESTS" seem to cost a pot load of money with my vet.

Re: Pups front legs are starting to twist
when i took my pup for it the vet done test and figuring out what its missing or getting to much of is almost impossible thats why my vet suggested childerns vitamins. they are not as over powering as regular adult vitamins they are geared towards childern and meet a happy medium. adding a lil of everything but not major doses of a single vitamin at once.

Re: Pups front legs are starting to twist
OOHH Boy, after the last 2 posts felt I really needed to chime in!!!!
This does sound like rickets. Rickets is a in balance in diet. Normally a lack of Vitamin D! Could also be an in balance or lack of calcium or phosphorous which allows the Vitamin D to be released from the fat stores. In rare cases in could be a gland problem that controls all of the above!
So treatment would be giving a supplement that contains vitamin D, calcium, and phosphorous. Or, at least vitamin D to start.
COD LIVER OIL does not provide this. It contains high amounts of vitaman A. Which could cause a weakening in bones. So as a treatment for rickets would actually make things worse!!!!
Before jumping all over me on this. Do a little research and verify the info. I'm not a vet, but did stay at a Holiday Inn last night where I learned how to CLICK HERE!
Hope your pup gets better!!!

Re: Pups front legs are starting to twist
Thanks for all the info and suggestions... Took the pup to the vet yesterday and they did an x-ray and bones and growth plates all look good. She told me to feed him less dog food with less protein and fat to slow down his growth. Hope it works.

Had a pup going out west to a member on this forum and a week before shipping she got rickets, I didn't ship her. Wish I would have read this before I culled!!!!
