Re: question about nance dogs
Im not saying anything bad about nance dogs i was just curious to why they are more high strung than the old floppy eared hounds i have nothing against any breed of dog i think there is good in all. I also think it was said best earlier in another post you just have to find what works best for you or in this case me. Every one gets dam defensive on here when you start talking about a dog the like ive seen it on the cameron dogs plotts and so on im not evan talking bad about the nance dogs i think everyone needs to lighten up

Re: question about nance dogs
csl, never ment to come across that way. Just have seen where alot of guys have said the Nance strain is a high strung type of dog that over runs tracks. that is not a true Nance trait. Yes they are very gamey type dogs when they are young but with the correct handle on them they learn to focus on what game you want them to run fairly quick. I am with you when you say there is good in all breeds. I have been running this strain for some time now and yes there is good and bad in it but I have tried to cull the bad but the so called high strung type or gamey which I call is most of the time worked out with age and exposure. Re: question about nance dogs
Thanks andy. I have been around alot of jeff's nance bred dogs and they seem to be good dogs and I was around topper when jeff had him and ive seen the kind of dogs this breed produces I just havent had the best of luck with the ones i have gotten for some reason i have a old strain allen bred dog that i bred to topper while jeff had him some 3 or 4 years ago and those pups turned out way nice. Just maybe this nance bred pup I got this time will be the one that works out for me who knows.

Re: question about nance dogs
CSL, I did not mean for my responce to sound like I was jumping up to defend the Nance dogs, or be argumentive. I thought you were asking about the traits and differencies between the old Nance blood and some of the newer supposedly Nance bred dogs. I was simply trying to explain the difference that I have seen between the two.
Good luck,

Re: question about nance dogs
i parked on the side of a road today, starring at not one, but two sets of lion tracks, one on top of the other. obviously a male female pair going to do the funky chicken with any luck. anyways, they were heading into an area that is closed to hunting,so i couldn't release the hounds. all three of my mutts had there beaks out the window getting some fresh air. i figured what the heck, lets see if they can scent them from the truck window. i edged the truck close to the snow burm on the side of the road and just sat there watching them work their noses. a few minutes later my nance hound struck,i have never seen a hound try so hard to smell something. it was like he could smell it but it must have been so faint. im not sure if it was a fluke or not,so next time i see a set crossing im going to see if he can repeat it. suffice to say this nance strain has some nose. i like them big, lean, lanky, tight footed nance bred hounds, like 'em a lot. my airedales could run fresh tracks. LOL
