Hi everyone,
I have been always been interested in this sport. I have inquired in the past and corresponded with a few people but nothing that has actually led me in the direction of the actual experience. I live in southern california and most that had corresponded with me were out of state. I am an enthusiast of game dogs and their abilities and have owned several ambulls, pitbulls in the past. Right now I own 2 Tosa Inu dogs, male and female. My female is a lightweight American Tosa(I think she is mixed) at 80 lbs and I think she would make a good bay dog since she was a rescue and an extremely athletic cur. My male is 140 lbs straight from Japanese fighting lines 8 generations of national champions on both sides of the pedigree. He is an extremely, extremely high drive dog just raring to go at anything with 4 legs. He may be able to team up with other females. My male needs to work as I recently put him in a dog show, he placed best of breed, best male, and 2nd in group but the dog show is really not for him. I was hoping that I can fulfill his need to work instead of wasting his potential as well as my interest in this sport. I am looking to put him in weight pulling contests but he needs more. He needs to clamp his jaws down on something that will give him a challenge. He is inexperienced with a hog but I would like to give him that experience to see what he is made out of. I know hog hunting is dangerous but I am game for it. If anyone can lead me to the right direction or maybe mentor me in and around my area that would be really great. It doesn't hurt to try and hopefully the message board can yield something that will get me closer to the excitement of the hunt. Thanks everyone.

read the hog forum and learn all you can honestly. then evaluate yourself and your dog and see if the traits that are really important to hog hunters are there and that there aren't any faults that would preclude the intelligent use of your dog. good luck.

I will, thank you. I will repost this there as well. The Tosa has many hunting dogs in its genetic make up, including the blood hound, pointer, and great dane. Working with other same sex dogs may be an issue as well as his inexperience as I know he will try to bum rush a hog head on so he might need practice but I have a feeling he has the potential for a great catch dog. Thank you though and I will definitely read up.pegleg wrote:read the hog forum and learn all you can honestly. then evaluate yourself and your dog and see if the traits that are really important to hog hunters are there and that there aren't any faults that would preclude the intelligent use of your dog. good luck.
