RIP Bear Batllin Ol Rough

Post by Budd Denny »

I know Nelson Cole is not a member on here and probably never will be on the forums, but I thought this old dog deserved a spot on here. I'm sure Nelson will admit it that this old dog as put a lot of food on the table and helped with a lot of bills for Nelson. He was on 154 client killed bobcat, and over 350 client killed bear. I beleave he passed away at age 13. I had the pleasure of watching this old dog do his magic on bobcat. RIP Rough.

Too many times people forget about those great friends and hunting partners that wait patiently for us to feed and water them, tail always wagging...

My wife reminds me on occation ,,,,you have as many or more photo's of your hounds as you do your kids, truth is she's right!!!

We should have more photo's on here of our hounds working ,to me that's why we hunt lion, bear and small cats.

I agree if I couldn't use hounds to lion hunt I wouldn't even if it was feasible. I don't do much hunting of any type where dogs aren't used. I know I can kill things and that isn't the point for me. I like the experience of watching a trained dog do its job. just like it has been done for thousands of years across a multitude of cultures and economic classes. that is a true heritage of mankind! not many sports are as wide spread as hunting with dogs, except sex, love and war.

Seems ,anytime I visit with Nelson, rough came up in the conversation. I'm quite sure he not only lost a top hound, but a good friend besides.

I am NOT trying to Knock Nelson ,He is a long time guide and outfitter . From what I know he really loves the Bobcat hunting . On Paper company property the land is open to all for hunting ,hounding ,fishing etc; We would never put out on someone that has already put down on a track .As an example if we arrive at a track and the hounds blow off at 6:05 AM No one around We feel we have the RIGHT to pursue a bobber . If someone pulls in at 6:10 saying they usually hunt that area .And their Attitude is right I would probably say have at it . Life is a 2 way street it is NOT like that is the only Bobcat track in the woods . when the other guys hounds are also blowing off you would tend to think that it is a hot track . I guess if you snooze you loose . In this case WHO would you say has the right to pursue? If we can't all get together in the woods and share ,Then we DO HAVE SERIOUS problems .
