Pegleg,

I agree with you assestment on the human nervous system being jacked up and how it stifles the effects of the strike at times. I have seen this in under the influence of narcotics taking numerous rifle and pistol hits and still remaining dangerous. It is not always possible to nail the T-Zone aiming at the thorax so at times you take your best shot and then keep the heat on.

The 22 Magnum is controversial even in my mind. I know we will have some who will applaude it's killing power and even make case stories of it efffectiveness. I could do the same having seen numerous lions a few bear and even elk put down with this diminutive round. Like it's little brother the 22 LR amazing things can be done when the stars line up and the Red gods are smiling down on you. I have also seen some things go to crap using this round and seen some very fine dogs ripped up bad. So my reaction these days is along the lines of the great book that Robert Ruark wrote called ( Don't be a pussy, use enough gun.)Well at least the last part wass in his title. LOL!

The 10mm is a fine side arm and good caliber combination with the right hollow point or gold dot bullets for lions. Don't let people fool you however by saying it is an auto 41 MAG. careful study will show you that it delivers very simlarly to the 357 Magnum revolver cartride. which by the way has proven very effective for years.A fully stoked 41-Magnum with a 6" or longer barrel, loaded hot with LBT heat Treated cast bullets will shoot right thru a bull elk or a large bears head. but watch oput it still has enough coming out the other side to kill a dog or your buddy.Ditto for the 44 mag, 45 Long colt hot and ofcourse the big boys 454 Casull, 460,and the big 500.

a case can be made for or against any round. I've listened to balistic power points and the effects of temp pressure wind etc. until i was sure my ears were bleedin. it all boils down to ability and confidence. i've seen shots made with firearms ill suited to the purpose but had the shooter been given a more suitable choice their confidence would have melted and things would have gone to hell quickly. I've also seen shooters caress a big bore into the type of accuracy thats plain unbelievable. my ten is a nice firearm for its use and has performed well with out a glitch many times.my likes are that it combines penetration and power very well. it's not a lightening rod but i haven't seen one. however there are many firearms that do their purpose well and thats what opens the door to debates. if everyone had ten inches it would all stop right there.

i used a 45 acp this year on bear. wasn't impresed with its stopping power although i don't think i found the right ammo to use also. i also shot a bobcat in the shoulder with it that blew the shoulder up but that was all. i'm trying to get a 454 now

Don't forget the 44 special. It's been somewhat lost in the last few years with the switch to semi-auto's. Doesn't pack the punch as the magnum but is still a power house in it's own right. And recoil is much easier on the shooter.

AZ Hunter if you are close to Mesa and looking for a 357 rifle I have a very nice rossi lever action rifle. It is a model 92 srs. It is a great rifle for lion. The barel is only 16 inches long. And it has the larger cowboy loop lever. I have 2 of them. I need to purchase another 357 side arm to match up. So I looking to sale or trade for a 357 revolver. Let me know your email if your intrested and I will send you photos.
